RV Women’s Soccer Finishes Regular Season With 2-0 Loss to Sharks

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – RV Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer was unable to finish off an unbeaten regular season, dropping the season finale on Wednesday evening versus No. 11 Nova Southeastern. In an evenly matched contest, the Sharks grabbed a goal at the end of each half, finishing the season as conference champions. Jianna Ramirez scored the game's opening goal with less than 30 seconds left in the first half, while Genesis Hernandez added the insurance goal in the 80th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles and Sharks got off to frantic start, with four shots and two saves all coming within the first dozen minutes.
  • Nova Southeastern registered a pair of early shots, with Stella Roane's first of five saves coming after she deflected Sofia Suarez's shot out for a corner.
  • Anna Hansson, who has now started back-to-back games, recorded ERAU's first shot in the 12th minute with it going slightly over the crossbar.
  • After a big save from Stella Roane in a one-on-one opportunity, Embry-Riddle started to take control towards the end of the first half.
  • The Eagles took four consecutive shots in the final five minutes of the half. After an initial save from Gretchen Duttenhofer, Lauryn Mateo took a shot from distance with the goalkeeper out of position, but Mateo's shot bounced narrowly wide.
  • In the final minute of the opening half, Jianna Ramirez capitalized on a misplayed pass from the Eagles, and put the Sharks ahead 1-0.
  • The two teams continued to alternate attacks in the second half, with each team taking five shots.
  • Three second half saves from Duttenhoffer, including two off of shots from Berglind Thrastardottir, kept the Eagles off the scoreboard.
  • With 10 minutes to go, Genesis Hernandez put the Sharks in front by two. After a cross from Oliwia Loeman bounced around in the box, Hernandez controlled and placed her shot between a couple of ERAU defenders.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Berglind Thrastardottir led the team with two shots on goal, and played 90 minutes for the sixth time this season.
  • Thea Nyberg finishes the regular season playing 1430 of a possible 1440 minutes.
  • Embry-Riddle used only two subs this evening, with Ria Vlachos and Julia Hyppel each playing slightly more than 30 minutes.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will start postseason play when they host Florida Southern in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium on Monday Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The Moccasins have got an 8-2-6 overall record, while earning the #5 seed with a 3-2-5 record in the SSC. ERAU and FSC drew 1-1 during their regular season matchup on October 29 in Lakeland.
