No. 14 Women’s Basketball Dominates Barry in 96-52 Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It did not take long for No. 14 Embry-Riddle to assert their dominance over Barry in Saturday's matchup, as the Eagles jumped out to a 20-point lead before the first quarter ended and never looked back. The team's 96 points are the sixth most in program history, while ERAU also set three other top-10 all-time marks, including 41 made field goals (fifth), 73 field goals attempted (tied for eighth), and 24 assists. Eliana Sheplee and Laurie Satchell led the way with double-doubles, combining for 47 points and 24 rebounds, as the Eagles' depth helped fueled a wire-to-wire performance that keeps them near the top of the SSC standings heading into the winter break.

RECORDS:

Barry: 3-7, (1-3 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • Embry-Riddle set the tone by getting to the paint early and often against the Bucs. 18 of the team's 23 first quarter points came from inside the paint.
  • After back-to-back buckets to begin the game from ERAU, a Barry layup made it 4-2. However, the Eagles would score 17 unanswered points and led 21-2 after a Bianca Negreiros layup.
  • Sheplee led the way, scoring over half of her total points in the first quarter (13).
Second Quarter
  • The Eagles kept their foot on the gas, even after their large lead in the opening quarter, as they would go on to shoot 75% in the second frame, going 12-for-16.
  • Lengemann had 10 points in the first five minutes of the quarter, making five of the team's first six shots.
  • Embry-Riddle only missed one shot from inside the three-point line, going 11-for-12 in the quarter. Their 26 points in the quarter is the 3rd most in a game this season.
  • ERAU would finish the half with their largest lead of the game up to that point, when they were ahead 49-17 after a layup from Satchell.
Third Quarter
  • Brasko added to the Eagles' lead by knocking down a pair of threes in the quarter, helping her finish with a career-high four made threes in the game.
  • Defensively, Embry-Riddle disrupted everything Barry wanted to do, forcing 27 turnovers and recording a season-high 13 steals.
  • Satchell grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the game, leading the way for ERAU's 23 second chance points. The Blue and Gold outrebounded the Bucs 44-21 in the game.
Fourth Quarter
  • Kailey Turpening, who currently ranks 4th in the country in assists per game, picked up a pair of assists early in the quarter, giving her eight or more assists for the third time this season.
  • Satchell finished off her double-double with eight points and a pair of rebounds in the fourth quarter.
  • Embry-Riddle closed the game with five true freshmen on the floor, (Maya Collins, Negreiros, Jareah Branch, Sydney Roufosse, and Ilektra Polychronopoulou), who combined for 16 points in the paint as part of ERAU's 60 total points inside.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Every dressed player saw at least six minutes of action, and all 10 players recorded at least one made field goal.

  • Sheplee raised her SSC-leading scoring average to 19.6 points per game, while her 11 made field goals tied for the seventh-most in program history.
