No. 20 Women’s Basketball Wins 69-63 Nail-biter Over Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Embry-Riddle women's basketball prevailed with a six-point win after a back-and-forth game with Florida Tech on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles were quickly up by 16 early in the first quarter, but the Panthers had a strong response in a game that had eight lead changes and seven ties. Florida Tech was up by two in the final three minutes, but ERAU finished the game on an 8-0 run to pick up their 8th win of the season. Eliana Sheplee finished the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds, giving her back-to-back doubles for the Blue and Gold.

  • The Eagles will finish the 2025 calendar year ranked No. 20 in the WBCA Coaches' Poll (Dec. 23).
  • ERAU now leads the all-time series 11-7 over Florida Tech.
  • This was the sixth straight matchup that Embry-Riddle has won over the Panthers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • Despite a 12-day layoff, the Eagles opened the game strong, building a 20-4 lead in the first eight minutes.
  • Sheplee scored each of ERAU's first nine points and finished the quarter with 11 points and three rebounds.
  • Embry-Riddle shot 56.2 percent (9-for-16) from the field in the opening quarter, going 2-for-3 from three-point range, with Sheplee and Alyssa Brasko each hitting a shot from behind the arc.
Second Quarter
  • All five of Embry-Riddle's field goals in the second quarter came from within the paint. Lengemann recorded two of the five made field goals in the quarter.
  • Lengemann's first bucket put ERAU up 26-11, but Florida Tech recorded six straight points after that to cut the lead down to single digits.
  • The Eagles would go scoreless for the final four minutes of the half, seeing the Panthers score 10 unanswered points and take a 34-32 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
  • After starting the third quarter with a trey from Nyamjav, the Panthers were up 37-32, which was their largest lead of the game.
  • However, Kailey Turpening started a 7-0 run for the Eagles, forcing a timeout from Florida Tech in the first two minutes of the half.
  • Midway through the quarter, Embry-Riddle led 45-42, but Florida Tech had an 8-0 run of their own to reclaim the lead.
  • After ERAU hit three late free throws, the two teams ended the third quarter all level at 54.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Eagles and Panthers traded buckets to start the final frame, with the teams tied on three separate occasions including being tied 61-61 with 3:30 to play.
  • A three-pointer from Bianca Negreiros put Embry-Riddle ahead 64-63, followed by an and-1 from Lengemann which put the Eagles up by two possessions with less than a minute to go.
  • ERAU forced Florida Tech to go scoreless on each of their final five possessions, with Kailey Turpening finishing off the game with a couple free throws.

  • Sheplee has recorded four double-doubles in the six games since Thanksgiving, including back-to-back SSC games with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds.
