Sixth-Inning Rally Secures Series Opener for Softball Against Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Mattea Martin and Leah Oberkehr produced clutch hits with two outs in the sixth inning to drive in three runs to help Embry-Riddle Softball come from behind to beat Eckerd 3-1 in the series-opener on Friday. Starting pitcher Shelby Morse tossed a gem by allowing one unearned run over seven innings with a season-high four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles were in a tough situation early on as Eckerd put two runners in scoring position with one out. However, Morse struck out the following two batters to keep the game scoreless.
  • A fielding error came back to haunt the Eagles when Eckerd scored the first run of the game in the third inning.
  • Kinahan made the most of a rare start in center field by making a diving catch with the bases loaded to end the fourth frame. 
  • Embry-Riddle's offense woke up in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back throwing errors by the Tritons' third baseman put two Eagles on with two outs. 
  • Martin came up clutch with an RBI game-tying blooper to left field.
  • Oberkehr followed by attacking the first pitch and lining it into left to drive in two runs for a 3-1 lead.
