Men’s Basketball Clipped by Spartans, 73-70

TAMPA, Fla. -- Embry-Riddle men's basketball struggled down the stretch against Tampa on Saturday, falling 73-70. The Eagles were outscored 9-2 over the final five minutes. That came after ERAU built a four-point lead off a 10-0 streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
  • Yassin Hussein gave the Eagles an early one-point lead by scoring the team's first seven points.
  • After a three pointer from Dru Nickson to even the score, Tampa went on an 11-2 streak to send Embry-Riddle behind by nine (23-14, 11:03).
  • Milan Skoric took over by capturing the eight of the Blue and Gold's next 10 points with a pair of shots from downtown to bring his team within five (29-24, 7:57).
  • Embry-Riddle outscored the home team 10-4 over the last four-and-a-half minutes of the half to go into the break down by only four (44-40).
  • Embry-Riddle shot 55.1% from the floor in the first half.
  • Hussein nearly recorded a double-double in the first 20 minutes of play, earning 11 points and seven rebounds in the half.

Second Half
  • The Eagles forced the Spartans to miss their first six shots of the half. 
  • Nickson led the charge out of the locker room by scoring six of the team's first eight points.
  • He gave the Eagles a 48-47 (16:38) lead with an emphatic breakaway dunk after Dawson Barr pickpocketed a Spartan and passed the ball ahead to the senior.
  • The two sides went back and forth until the Eagles shot ahead with 10 unanswered points to lead 68-64 with 5:03 remaining.
  • However, Tampa converted on seven free throws down the stretch to outscore Embry-Riddle 9-2 and thwart the Eagles' hopes of spoiling the Spartans' senior night.
