Slow Start Stalls Men’s Lacrosse Against RV Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- After a slow start that saw the Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team fall behind by ten, the Eagles regrouped after halftime to slice into the deficit, but they ultimately fell 13-8 to RV Flagler on Saturday. ERAU outscored FC 5-1 in the second half led by a pair of goals from Christian Hofer.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • Flagler started the scoring with two quick goals in the opening two minutes of the game
  • Embry-Riddle responded as Trey Dring and Pete Abbes both found the back of the net to even the score at the 8:07 mark
  • However, Flagler scored the first of 10 unanswered goals with 7:27 left. The Saints scored four more times before the end of the period as ERAU trailed 7-2.


Second Quarter
  • The second quarter was more of the same as Flagler started it with a 5-0 run (12-2).
  • Tim Keege charged in on the right side and found an opening for an Eagle goal with 3:13 remaining, which was the last score before halftime for either team


Third Quarter
  • Flagler made it a ten-point game again with a goal four minutes into the third quarter.
  • From there, the Eagles were able to keep the Saints off the scoreboard for the last 26 minutes of the contest
  • Hofer then produced back-to-back goals.
  • A man up, Abbes took advantage of the opportunity to cut the gap to 13-6 with another score at 2:12.


Fourth Quarter
  • The promising second half continued when Giacomo Comuzzi struck with 11:04 left in the game
  • Christopher Harper capped off the scoring (2:52) to finalize the score at 13-8.

  • Embry-Riddle won the face-off battle, 15-10.
  • The Eagle defense kept the Saints in check in the second half by holding Flagler to just one goal during that span. 
  • Comuzzi's goal was the first of his collegiate career.
