WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse put together a late rally in the fourth quarter but the Eagles were unable to catch up to Palm Beach Atlantic (RV), falling to the Sailfish 20-16 on the road on Friday. The loss puts the Eagles at 1-3 on the year, while the Sailfish improve to 3-0.
Leo Mileto had a breakout game for the Blue & Gold leading all Eagles players with four goals, marking the first multi-goal performance of his career.
Trey Dring and
Christian Hofer scored three goals apiece while
Elek Zubor won 13 face offs for the Eagles who best the Sailfish 20-18 in that category.
First Quarter
•
Pete Abbes recorded the first goal of the game less than a minute into the contest.
• The Sailfish scored five unanswered to take a 7-2 lead at the end of the first 15 minutes.
Second Quarter
• The Sailfish scored three of the first four goals to open the second quarter.
• At the 7:49 mark, Hofer picked up a ground ball off a save on an Abbes shot and scored the Eagles third goal of the game.
• Trailing 10-3, the Eagles got goals from
Tim Keefe, Mileto and Dring to reduce the deficit to five (11-6), but the Sailfish scored twice in the 16 seconds to increase their lead to 13-6 at the half.
Third Quarter
• Both teams were scoreless through the first five minutes of the third.
• The Eagles, with goals from Dring, Abbes,
Jay Kyle and
Luke Barber, matched the Sailfish' four-goal output with four goals of their own.
• Heading to the fourth, the Sailfish lead remained at seven (17-10).
Fourth Quarter
• The Sailfish scored their 18th and 19th goals inside the first 15 minutes of the fourth.
• Beginning at the 10:07 mark, Embry-Riddle scored five unanswered goals to cut the lead to the three (19-16).
• The Eagles' scoring run included three goals by Mileto.
• The Blue & Gold had two looks at the goal in the final two minutes, but it was the Sailfish who connected on their only attempt during that stretch to secure the 20-16 win.
