Softball’s Walk-Off Win Over Florida Tech Highlights Dramatic Day Two of Eagle Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Three of the four games played during day two of the Eagle Classic had a margin of victory of one run, and Embry-Riddle Softball was involved in two of those contests. The Eagles started the day with a narrow 6-5 loss to No. 6 Auburn-Montgomery but followed it up with a nine-inning 5-4 walk-off win over Florida Tech.

Game 1 | No. 6 Auburn-Montgomery - 6, Embry-Riddle - 5

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • Auburn-Montgomery leads 6-3.
  • Embry-Riddle is 2-2 all-time at home against AUM.
  • The Eagles beat the Warhawks 8-4 on Friday.
  • ERAU's three wins came while the Warhwaks were ranked No. 14 or better.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As has been the case in all five games this season, the Eagles struck first in the bottom of the first when Emma Wood smacked a ball to the left-center fence to drive in Raissa Bianco
  • Delaney Morgan then brought Wood in with a sacrifice bunt.
  • Isabelle Bonn flexed her muscles by tossing out a runner attempting to steal second in the second frame.
  • In that same inning, two singles and a walk loaded the bases for AUM with one out, but Shelby Morse overpowered a Warhawk for a strikeout, and Kelsey Kressler snagged a ground ball to record a force-out at home to end the threat.
  • In the bottom half of the inning, Bianco snuck a ball in just to the right of the left-field foul pole for a three-run blast (5-0, ERAU).
  • Again, AUM put multiple runners in scoring position with one out in the third, but Wood tracked a ball down in foul territory by first base and Morgan caught a flyout in center to keep the 5-0 lead.
  • The Warhawks used four singles to plate two runs in the fourth (5-2, ERAU).
  • Auburn-Montgomery's first six batters produced five singles and a two-run home run to take a 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth.
  • With runners on second and third in the top of the seventh, Kerry O'Sullivan turned a clutch unassisted double play by catching a line drive and stepping on second to give the Eagles a chance in the bottom of the inning.
  • Bianco and O'Sullivan started the frame with base knocks. Both later advanced by stealing second and third.
  • Two strikeouts and a pop out ended the Eagles hopes for a walk-off victory.

  • After a scoreless eighth, Oberkehr made a superhero-like full-extension grab in foul territory to start the ninth.
