Softball Falls in Doubleheader Against RV Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. – After taking the series opener on Friday, Embry-Riddle Softball came up empty handed at RV Rollins on Saturday, dropping both games of a doubleheader by scores of 9-0 and 5-4. The Eagles were three outs away from claiming the series in game two of the doubleheader when the Tars hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

RECORDS
Embry-Riddle | 9-7, 3-6 SSC (8th)
RV Rollins | 9-4, 7-2 SSC (3rd)

ALL-TIME SERIES
  • Embry-Riddle leads the all-time series 14-13.
  • The Eagles are 7-5 at Rollins.
  • ERAU has won six of the eight three-game series.
  • This is the second-straight series won by the Tars, and the first time Rollins won a series held in Winter Park.

Game 1 (6 Inn.) | Rollins - 9, Embry-Riddle - 0

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • Isabelle Bonn continued to make an impact behind the plate by throwing out her fifth baserunner of the season, which was tied for the most in the Sunshine State Conference at the time.
2nd Inning
  • Rollins drew three walks and produced a single to score the first run.
  • Emma Wood moved into the circle as a reliever and struck out the next batter.
  • The Eagles almost got out of the jam with minimal damage as Wood fielded a weak hit with the bases loaded.
  • She got the force out at home, but the throw to first bounced out of the glove, and the Tars picked up a second run.
  • Thankfully, the Eagles ended the inning when Kerry O'Sullivan cut off a throw down to second and rifled the ball back to Bonn at the plate who tagged out a runner attempting to steal home.
3rd Inning
  • Rollins started the inning with a double and then a single to make it a 3-0 contest.
5th Inning
  • Four runs and an error allowed Rollins to add three more runs to its total (7-0).
6th Inning
  • The run rule was triggered when the Tars hit a two-run home run.

Game 2 | Rollins - 5, Embry-Riddle - 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • Rollins started with back-to-back singles, with a Tar later scoring by stealing home.
  • After that, the Eagles settled in defensively by retiring eight-straight Tars.
4th Inning
  • Oberkehr showed her speed by smacking a ball down the right field line and hustling all the way around the bases for an inside-the-park home run to tie the game.
  • Just like in the first, the Tars started the bottom of the fourth with two consecutive singles and used a deep double to left to go up 3-1.
6th Inning
  • Oberkehr got her second hit of the game to start the frame and then stole second.
  • Morgan then stepped in and smoked a pitch to left to bring the Eagles within one run (3-2, RC).
  • With Morgan now on third, Mallory Kinahan attempted a suicide squeeze, but the ball plopped down just in front of the plate, and Morgan was tagged out trying to score.
7th Inning
  • A walk and an error put a pair of Eagles on base with one out when Raissa Bianco found an opening though the right side of the infield for a hit. The right fielder sprinted in to field the ball but misplayed it off her glove to allow the tying run (Kelsey Kressler) to come home.
  • A couple batters later, Oberkehr stole second and baited a throw down to give Bianco an easy opportunity to steal home and the lead (4-3, ERAU).
  • Sadly, Rollins walked it off in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
INSIDE THE STATS

  • The Eagles got the leadoff batter on base in six of the seven innings.
  • Bonn threw her seventh runner out of the season, the most in the SSC.
