Softball Sweeps No. 11 Wilmington

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team got back on track on Wednesday night by taking both games against No. 11 Wilmington by scores of 3-1 and 11-6. It was the Eagles' second and third wins against ranked opposition this season.

Raissa Bianco had a monster day at the plate, going 5-for-8 with three runs and one RBI. In the circle, Shelby Morse picked up a pair of three-inning saves by holding the Wildcats to just two runs over six innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Inning
  • The Eagles' defense erased a one-out single by turning a 2-6-3 double play.
  • Delaney Morgan used a groundout to bring the opening run in during the bottom of the inning.
2nd Inning
  • Defensively, ERAU was in top form as the Eagles retired the side in order in three of the next four innings. 
4th Inning
  • A dangerous situation occurred in the fourth when the Wildcats loaded the bases with no outs due to two singles and a hit batter. 
  • A base knock tied the game, but Embry-Riddle prevented further damage by getting a force out at home and retiring the next two batters.
  • Raissa Bianco led off the bottom half with a double to left.
  • A pair of defensive miscues allowed the senior to race around the bases to put the Eagles ahead 2-1. 
  • Soon after, Kerry O'Sullivan laid down a sacrifice bunt, and Serenity Jaenichen safely sprinted home for a 3-1 advantage.
7th Inning
  • Wilmington put the potential tying run in scoring position with one out, but reliever Morse induced a fly out and a line out to preserve the win.

  • Bianco tied her season high in both hits (3) and runs (2).
  • The Eagles got the leadoff batter on in four of the six innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Inning
  • Mallory Kinahan and company made quick work of the visitors in the first by retiring the side in order.
  • A walk and a single from Leah Oberkehr and Bianco gave Emma Wood the opportunity to place a bunt single down to score Oberkehr. 
2nd Inning
  • Wilmington fought back in the next inning with a pair of RBI doubles to go ahead 3-1. 
  • It didn't take Embry-Riddle long to respond as the Eagles scored four times in the bottom of the inning despite only recording two hits. 
  • Two errors and a single from O'Sullivan loaded the bases with one out.
  • Morgan produced an RBI with a single to the pitcher. 
  • Back-to-back walks issued to Mattea Martin and Isabelle Bonn pushed two more runs across. 
  • Lastly, a wild pitch gave ERAU a two-run lead (5-3).
3rd Inning
  • Another 1-2-3 inning gave way to another run-producing opportunity for the Blue and Gold when Bianco smashed a pitch to left-center for an RBI triple (6-3, ERAU).
4th Inning
  • Two-straight singles gave Wilmington the chance to cut into the deficit as a fielding miscue brought a Wildcat in to score. 
  • Katriana Bain brought the advantage back to three runs (7-4) in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double to center. 
5th Inning
  • The Wildcats began the frame with a double and a single.
  • Though WU did score a run during the next at-bat, Embry-Riddle turned a 6-3-5 double play as Wood got the initial force out at first and fired the ball over to Kelsey Kressler to tag out the runner trying to advance to third.
  • The Eagles stretched their lead out to six runs in the next half inning. 
  • Two-straight RBI bunt singles placed by Morgan and Wood made the score 9-5. 
  • Bonn then used a groundout to drive in Jaenichen while Bain picked up another RBI with a single to center.
6th Inning
  • Morse made the Wildcats look silly by striking out a pair in the inning. 
  • The Eagles retired the final four batters to earn the doubleheader sweep.

  • Bianco's triple was the first by an Eagle this year.
  • The Eagles outhit the Wildcats 11-9.
  • It's the eighth time the Blue and Gold tallied double digit hits in a game in 2025.
