Men’s Lacrosse Scores 11-10 Upset of No. 19 Newberry

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse team recorded the biggest win in program history to date with an 11-10 win over No. 19 Newberry at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday. Wednesday's victory was the ERAU men's lacrosse program's third win over a ranked opponent in its history and the first this season.
 
A five-run fifth was the difference for the Eagles who were led by Lucas Anthony's four points on three goals and an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
• The Wolves opened the game on a 4-0 scoring run.
Christopher Harper scored the Eagles' first goal at the 4:14 mark.
• It took 11 seconds after Elek Zubor won the ensuing faceoff to get the ball to Luke Barber who scored the Eagles' second goal to make it 4-2 Newberry at the end of the first.
 
Second Quarter
• Goals were at a premium in the second quarter with the teams combining for three scores.
• Embry-Riddle had the first shot of the second quarter which was saved by the Wolves' goalie, but the Eagles picked up the rebound and Harper scored his second goal of the day on a man-up opportunity.
• After a 10-minute scoring drought by both teams, the Wolves got two goals in the last 4:21 to lead 6-3 at the half.
 
Third Quarter
• The third period saw the Blue & Gold erupt for five goals.
• The Eagles won the first faceoff of the frame and 24 seconds later, Harper found Trey Dring for the Eagles' fifth goal.
• With 7:16 left, Lucas Anthony scored his first goal of the afternoon and less than 30 seconds later he fed Dring to tie the score at 6-6.
• The Eagles got another goal from Anthony and one from Abbes before the Wolves could get on the board in the third.
• Heading into the fourth the Eagles led 8-7.
 
Fourth Quarter
• Newberry tied the score at 8-8 to start the fourth quarter.
• The Eagles reclaimed the lead (9-8) on Dring's goal at the 13:15 mark, but the Wolves scored two unanswered to go up 10-9.
• With 2:56 remaining, Christian Hofer pulled the Eagles level at 10-10.
• The next faceoff went to Embry-Riddle and after the Eagles picked up the rebound on a Dring miss, Anthony netted the game-winning goal.
• The Wolves had the last three shots of the game, but they weren't able to find the target giving the Eagles the win.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles are back in Daytona Beach on Tuesday to host No. 15 Molloy at 5 p.m.
