Softball Concludes Challenging Series at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Softball came up empty-handed on Saturday as the Eagles were swept by Saint Leo 8-7 and 7-1. It was a tightly-contested series as two of the three games had a margin of victory of just one run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • Embry-Riddle initiated the scoring with Leah Oberkehr reaching third base on a bunt single, sac bunt and a stolen base. 
  • Raissa Bianco brought Oberkehr home with a sacrifice fly, giving the team an early lead. 
  • SLU responded in its half of the inning with two unearned runs, ending the inning ahead 2-1.
2nd Inning
  • The Lions continued to score at will, adding two runs in each of the next two frames to jump ahead 6-1.
5th Inning
  • The fifth inning saw Embry-Riddle add another run to its score. 
  • After Oberkehr walked and stole second, Bianco executed a sacrifice bunt, allowing Oberkehr to score from second and reduce the Lions' lead to 7-2.
7th Inning
  • In a significant turnaround during the seventh inning, Embry-Riddle scored five runs. 
  • This rally began with a hit-by-pitch and a fielding error that placed Parker Ray and Oberkehr on base. 
  • Katriana Bain then singled up the middle, driving in two runs. 
  • The inning continued with Mattea Martin's double down the left-field line, bringing in two more runs. 
  • Vanessa Gilbert entered as a pinch hitter and singled to add another run, bringing the score to 7-7.
8th Inning
  • The Lions, however, walked it off in the eighth inning. 
  • Barber reached base on a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. 
  • Antioco's single brought Barber home, marking the final run of the game and concluding the score at 8-7 in favor of SLU.

  • Oberkehr increased her hit streak to 28 games.
  • Her three hits and three runs were both career highs.
  • The junior also broke the single-game (5) and single-season (36) stolen base program records.
  • She became just the third student-athlete in the history of the SSC to record five or more stolen bases in a game. 
  • Wood extended her reached-base streak to 15-straight contests.
  • It was Tinajero's longest outing of the season. 
  • Embry-Riddle's seven stolen bases as a team were a season-high and tied for the fourth-most in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED
2nd Inning
  • In the second inning, Saint Leo capitalized on two errors by Embry-Riddle, scoring two unearned runs on a throwing error to take a 2-0 lead.
4th Inning
  • Embry-Riddle responded in the fourth inning. 
  • Delaney Morgan walked, stole second, and then scored on a single by Isabelle Bonn, narrowing the gap to 2-1. 
  • The Lions extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth. 
  • Corazzini scored an unearned run on a single by Waller followed by Epps, who came home on a throw down to second. 
  • This sequence of plays pushed the Lions' lead to 4-1.
6th Inning
  • In the sixth inning, SLU widened the margin further with three runs. 
  • A double by Barber and a single from Cline contributed to the scoring, solidifying their lead at 7-1.
