Big First Inning Sends Softball to 7-2 Win Over Mocs

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle secured a 7-2 victory over Florida Southern at Radiology Associates Stadium on Friday. The Eagles capitalized on a six-run first inning to establish an early lead. The game saw Embry-Riddle's offense collect eight hits and six RBIs while limiting the Mocs to five hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • In the bottom of the first inning, Embry-Riddle took an early lead with a commanding offensive display, scoring six runs. 
  • Leah Oberkehr set the tone by singling up the middle and stealing second base. Raissa Bianco followed with a single to center field, driving in Oberkehr for the first run. 
  • The momentum continued as Katriana Bain doubled, bringing Bianco home, and Delaney Morgan contributed with a two-RBI single. 
  • The inning was capped by opportunistic baserunning and a wild pitch, allowing two more runs to cross the plate.
3rd Inning
  • After a leadoff walk, Kerry O'Sullivan made a fantastic grab at shortstop on a ground ball and tossed to Bianco, who fired to Emma Wood on first for a 6-4-3 double play.
5th Inning
  • During the fifth inning, the Moccasins managed to get on the scoreboard with a single run, but Embry-Riddle responded promptly. 
  • Morgan hit a triple and subsequently scored on a single by Vanessa Gilbert, maintaining their lead at 7-1. 
7th Inning
  • The game concluded with Embry-Riddle holding strong despite FSC's late attempt to close the gap in the seventh inning. 
  • Mikle's walk and advancement allowed an unearned run to score due to a throwing error, but it wasn't enough as Embry-Riddle clinched the game 7-2
