Eagles Power Past Edward Waters, 16-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Timo Aracena and AJ Marinello hit home runs in back-to-back innings to lead the Embry-Riddle baseball team to a 16-3, run-rule win over Edward Waters on the road on Tuesday. The Eagles pounded out 14 hits and played error free baseball to snag their second win over the Tigers this season.
 
Bailey Russell got the start on the hill for the Blue and Gold and picked up the win, while Nick Rich and Cole Turner combined for four scoreless innings.
 
Marinello was 2-for-2 with four RBI and three runs scored, while Aracena went 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs scored. Jack Beyl was successful in three of his four at-bats, including two doubles. Marinello also altered the ERAU record books, becoming the Eagles' all-time hit-by-pitch leader with (43), while tying the single-season hit-by-pitch record (20).

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Inning
• The Eagles used four hits, two walks and a hit batter to plate five runs in the first.
• Beyl was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and moved up when Marinello earned a free pass.
Robert Post doubled down the right field line to score Beyl and Noah Clymer followed with a single that scored Marinello.
• Back-to-back singles by Aracena and Aiken Santana scored Post and Clymer, respectively, and Aracena scored the final run of the inning courtesy of a Collin Mastromauro sacrifice fly.
• The Tigers scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2 ERAU.
 
Third Inning
• The Tigers got their third run of the game via a solo home run.
 
Fourth Inning
• The Eagles sent eight hitters to the plate in the fourth.
• The highlight of the inning was Aracena's grand slam, his second of the season, which extended the Eagle lead to 9-3.
 
Fifth Inning
• After Rich set the Tigers down in order in the bottom of the fourth, singles by Mastromauro and Cooper Schmidt and a Beyl double sent one across to start the fifth.
• With two on and no outs, Marinello drove the ball over the fence in center field to add three more runs and widen the gap to 13-3.
 
Sixth Inning
• Three straight walks and a hit batter led to the Eagles' 14th run of the game
 
Seventh Inning
• The Tigers' pitching staff struggled to find the zone again in the seventh as two more walks and two wild pitches made the score 16-3 in favor of the Eagles.
• Turner got a strikeout and a pair of ground outs to end the game according to the run rule.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles return to Sunshine State Conference play at 6 p.m. on Thursday when they host Nova Southeastern in the first of a three-game series.
