Explosive Fifth Inning Helps Softball Upset No. 17 Sharks in Extras

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Softball used seven hits, five of which went for extra bases, to plate six runs in the fifth and eventually win 7-6 in nine innings against No. 17 Nova Southeastern. The rally turned a 3-0 deficit into a 6-3 lead that held up until the Sharks tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. In the top of the ninth, Emma Wood's RBI single proved to be the difference maker.

  • On the very next pitch, the batter skyed a pitch to right for Mattea Martin, who caught the ball and fired a dart to Katriana Bain at home to tag the runner out attempting to score.
5th Inning
  • The Eagles' bats came alive in the fifth when Isabelle Bonn and Kelsey Kressler smacked back-to-back doubles to score a run.
  • Soon after, Raissa Bianco stepped in and slapped a bloop single to left to plate a second run.
  • The next batter, Leah Oberkehr, smoked a pitch over the head of the left fielder and back to the fence for her first-career triple, which tied the game.
  • Delaney Morgan plated two more with a double to deep center, and Katriana Bain produced the team's fourth double of the inning to make it a three-run lead (6-3).
6th Inning
  • NSU used a two-run home run to set up a nail-biting seventh frame.
7th Inning
  • A pinch-hit double put a runner in scoring position with one out.
  • After the runner advanced to third, a high chopper to third scored the tying run to send the game to extras.
