Softball Secures Series Over No. 17 Nova Southeastern

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A doubleheader split on Friday afternoon allowed Embry-Riddle Softball to steal a series from No. 17 Nova Southeastern. The Eagles took game one 5-2 in eight innings but fell 5-4 in a 12-inning affair in game two. All three games in the series went into extra innings.

  • Embry-Riddle leads the all-time series 15-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning 
  • Embry-Riddle opened up the scoring before the game even reached its official start time of noon.
  • Raissa Bianco was clipped by a pitch and then stole second. 
  • Emma Wood then singled to left to plate Bianco for the lead.
  • In the bottom of the inning, Leah Oberkehr used her strong arm to nail a runner attempting to score, preserving the Eagles' lead.
3rd Inning
  • A wild double play occurred when a hard-hit ball deflected off Kelsey Kressler's glove at third and went right to the shortstop Kerry O'Sullivan
  • She caught the ball and fired to first for the second out before the runner could return to the base. 
4th Inning
  • Two doubles and a defensive error put Nova Southeastern ahead 2-1.
6th Inning
  • Oberkehr found herself on second following a walk and stolen base.
  • Wood produced when her team needed her most with an RBI single to right to even the score.
8th Inning
  • O'Sullivan and Oberkehr reached with singles and eventually advanced into scoring position with one out.
  • Wood used a sac fly to left to score the go-ahead run while Delaney Morgan's single made it a 4-2 contest.
  • Katriana Bain capped off the scoring with an RBI double.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
INSIDE THE STATS 
  • This was the Eagles' fifth win over a ranked opponent this season, the most in a single year in program history.
  • Morse tied the program's career wins record with her 36th as an Eagle.
  • The Eagles outhit the Sharks, 9-8.
  • Embry-Riddle hit .556 (5-9) with runners in scoring position.
  • Morse's five assists were a career high.
  • She has also allowed just two earned runs in her last 30 innings pitched.

HOW IT HAPPENED
2nd Inning
  • Bianco and Wood turned a smooth 4-3 double play, but NSU struck first with an RBI single.
3rd Inning
  • Isabelle Bonn made an impact both behind and at the plate. 
  • After throwing out a runner attempting to steal in the first, Bonn came through with a bases-loaded two-RBI single to center to give the Eagles the lead.
6th Inning
  • Two singles had runners on first and second for NSU.
  • The next batter tied the score with a sacrifice fly to center.
7th Inning
  • The clutch at-bats continued for Wood, who drove in yet another run in the top of the seventh to give the Eagles a 3-2 advantage thanks to an RBI double.
  • The leadoff batter reached on a walk in the bottom of the inning.
  • Two consecutive groundouts pushed the runner to third, and the Shark later scored on a throwing error to send the game into extras for the third time this series. 
12th Inning
  • Morgan started a two-out rally with a double to center.
  • She advanced to third and scored on a single by Mallory Kinahan.
  • However, three consecutive base hits by the Sharks loaded the bases with one out. 
  • A single and a hit-by-pitch ended the game 5-4 in favor of the home team.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Bonn tied the single-season program record for most runners caught stealing (14) by throwing out a pair of Sharks in the game.
  • This was Embry-Riddle's 10th extra-inning game of the season, which is 23 percent of all its games played in 2025.
  • The Eagles played eight extra innings in this series. 
  • ERAU's eight walks tied the team's season high.
