Women’s Lacrosse's Historic Season Continues as they Take Down Florida Tech in SSC Tournament Quarterfinals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse team continued its historic run on Saturday afternoon, securing the program's first-ever Sunshine State Conference Tournament victory. The third-seeded and fourth-ranked Eagles defeated No. 21 and sixth-seeded Florida Tech for the third time this season, earning a 17-13 win to advance to the semifinals.

  • With the win, Embry-Riddle improves to 6-1 all-time against Florida Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

First Quarter 

  • Clare McGuire opened the scoring for Florida at 13:28.
  • After a nearly 10-minute scoring drought, Natalie Jansky broke the silence for ERAU, notching a goal and assisting on the next to spark the Eagles' offense.
  • The Panthers responded with two quick goals by Gillian Craig in the final minutes to knot the game heading into the second.

Second Quarter 

  • The period turned into a shootout, with both sides exchanging goals in a back-and-forth battle.

  • Embry-Riddle closed the half strong, scoring a flurry of late goals to take a 9-7 lead into the break.

Third Quarter 

  • Florida Tech opened the second half with energy, scoring back-to-back goals while clamping down defensively. 

  • But the Eagles quickly regained control. At the 11:59 mark, Ava Rogala ignited a run with a goal that led to three more unanswered scores.

  • Embry-Riddle carried a 13-10 lead into the final frame.

Fourth Quarter 

  • Florida Tech tried to narrow the gap, but the Eagles kept giving as good as they got once again matching the panther's energy. 

  • The final score was 17-13 in the Eagles' favor. 

Player Spotlight 

  • Zeruto was involved in nearly a third of the goals with a stat line that included one goal, seven assists, four ground balls and one caused turnover. 

  • Both Rogala and Samantha Reich led the field in goals with five apiece.  

  • Defensively Kaitlyn Henry had three crucial caused turnovers to help the Eagles to victory.  


UP NEXT 
The Eagles are now getting ready for the semifinals against the No.2 seed Florida Southern as they look to avenge a loss to the Lady Mocs earlier this season. The game will take place in Lakeland, Florida on Thursday at 5 p.m.
