Harley Goes Seven Strong to Lead Eagles Past Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Tristan Harley gave the Embry-Riddle baseball team seven strong innings of work in his 13th start of the season to lead the Eagles to a 5-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday evening. Harley allowed just five baserunners and struck out five on the way his fourth win of the season.
 
Joe Balsam made program history on Friday evening as he set down both batters he faced to earn a ERAU-record 26th career save.
 
Cooper Schmidt and Timo Aracena had three hits apiece to lead an Eagle offense that had 11 hits, all of which were singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Third Inning
• In the bottom of the third, the Sailfish got a free pass and that runner stole second on a close play.
• Moments later, Collin Mastromauro snuck in behind the runner and combined with Harley for a successful pickoff to keep the Sailfish off the board.
 
Fourth Inning
• The Eagle defense came up big again in the fourth as AJ Marinello fielded a ball hit to right field and threw out the runner at home to hold PBA at bay once again.
 
Fifth Inning
• Marinello registered the Eagles' first hit of the game with a one-out single to left.
• After Schmidt singled through the left side, Max Kops followed with a single which was misplayed by the left fielder and the error allowed Marinello to score.
• Aracena, the Eagles' next batter, stepped up to the plate and got a single of his own to score Schmidt and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
 
Sixth Inning
Jack Beyl singled to lead off the fifth and after getting to third on back-to-back ground outs, he scored the Eagles' third run on a passed ball.
 
Seventh Inning
• A Kops hit-by-pitch sandwiched between singles by Schmidt and Aracena loaded the bases with no outs to start the seventh.
Drew Clymer's singled drove in Schmidt and Beyl's ground out to short sent Kops across to extend the Eagle lead to 5-0.
 
Ninth Inning
• The Sailfish managed to score one run and had two runners on with no outs in the ninth, but Balsam came into the game and induced a fly out and struck out the final batter to earn the save.
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles and the Sailfish wrap up the three-game series with a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
