Morse Becomes Softball's Winningest Pitcher in 5-0 Victory Over Sailfish

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A dominant complete game shutout by Shelby Morse allowed the junior to break the program's all-time wins record with her 37th career victory in Embry-Riddle's series-opening 5-0 win against Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday. Additionally, it was Morse's sixth shutout of the season, which is tied for the third most in a single year by an Eagle and leads the Sunshine State Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning
  • A leadoff single from Raissa Bianco helped the senior travel all the way to third, which was the perfect spot for Delaney Morgan's sac fly to center for a 1-0 lead.
2nd Inning
  • A 6-4-3 twin killing by Kerry O'Sullivan, Bianco and Emma Wood helped Embry-Riddle erase a one-out single and end the top of the inning.
  • ERAU's leadoff batter reached base once again as Katriana Bain tallied a double to center.
  • As the inning progressed, Mallory Kinahan charged home to slide in safely on a single to right from Kelsey Kressler for a second run.
3rd Inning
  • From there, starting pitcher Morse and the Eagle defense locked in to retire the side in order for each of the next three innings.
5th Inning
  • Back-to-back base hits from Isabelle Bonn and Kelsey Kressler got the inning going in the right direction.
  • Soon after, a fielding error at shortstop prolonged the inning and allowed Kressler to make it a 3-0 contest.
  • Morgan then drove in another two Eagles with her double to right, pushing the lead to 5-0.
7th Inning
  • The Sailfish threatened to take the goose egg off the scoreboard, but Morse dug deep and caught the last batter window shopping to secure the shutout victory.
