Men’s Golf’s Ball Qualifies for Florida Open

| By:
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Embry-Riddle Men's Golf will have some representation at the 79th Florida Open next month as Ian Ball earned a spot thanks to his performance at the qualifier held at the World Golf Village on June 17.

"I'm proud of the way I battled today," said Ball, "and look forward to teeing it up in a prestigious event at the Florida Open."

The Florida Open will feature the best amateur and professional golfers in the state. Only Florida residents are eligible to qualify. Golfers must possess a Florida GHIN Handicap Index not exceeding 7.0, and players who have competed as a professional must have played in less than seven "major" tour events or less than 26 "minor tour" events in the 12 months prior to the Championship.

Ball shot a 71 (-1) at the King & Bear course to tie for third out of 69 participants. Only the top five and ties qualified for the Florida Open.

The junior's round was highlighted by a three-hole stretch of two birdies and an eagle on the par-4, 409-yard eighth hole. Ball smacked a 310-yard drive and followed it up with a 98-yard shot that one-hopped into the hole. The Port Orange, Florida product then went two under par on the back nine.

The Florida Open will be a three-round competition held at the Quail West Golf and Country Club and The TwinEagles Club in Naples, Florida from July 18-20. All 156 golfers will play a round on each course before the field is cut down to the low 60s and ties prior to the final round.
