Volleyball Goes Undefeated During Day One of Flagler Invitational

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - It was a smooth start to the Flagler Invitational for Embry-Riddle Volleyball as the Eagles handed Lenoir-Rhyne its first loss of the season, 3-1, and later dispatched Lees-McRae, 3-0.

Stella Weisbrod led the way with 25 kills over seven sets. Ashlyn Koerner added 63 assists to move into a tie for ninth on the program's all-time assists list, and Gabriela Pagan contributed 40 digs.

  • The first meeting was a 3-1 win at the UNC Pembroke Invitational in 2022

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • The Eagles took a brief lead at 8-7 with two kills from Dakota Zieman
  • From there, the Bears rattled off seven-straight points to launch ahead 14-8
  • Back-to-back successful spikes from Weisbrod kickstarted four unanswered points for ERAU to bring the Eagles within four (18-14)
  • However, LRU took seven of the last nine points to win the set (25-16) 
Second Set
  • Embry-Riddle rebounded by starting the set up 7-2 with two kills each from Isabella Rujano and Haley Manjack
  • Lenoir-Rhyne later strung together six-consecutive tallies to level the score at 11-11
  • Down 15-13, Rujano took matters into her own hands and recorded each of ERAU's next three points to once again tie the set (16-16)
  • Embry-Riddle stamped its claim on eight of the final 11 points to take its first set, 25-21
Third Set
  • LRU commenced the set by taking the opening five points
  • After three-straight points went to the Blue and Gold, the Bears added four unanswered scores in a streaky start to the set
  • Behind 14-8, kills from three different Eagles helped send the team on a 5-0 spurt to get within one (14-13)
  • Nine of ERAU's next 10 points came from LRU miscues, five of which were service errors
  • The Bears were ahead 24-21 when the Blue and Gold staved off three-straight set points 
  • Embry-Riddle ended the set on a 6-1 run to steal it, 27-25
Fourth Set
  • The Eagles launched out of the gate with a 4-1 streak
  • LRU responded by claiming six of the next seven, but ERAU followed with a 4-0 run with a couple of kills from Weisbrod to lead 9-7
  • The two sides remained close, but with Embry-Riddle ahead 20-18, Zieman accumulated three kills to help seal the win with a 25-20 set victory

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Embry-Riddle handed Lenoir-Rhyne its first loss of the season
  • ERAU also posted a season-high in digs (88), which is the second-most digs in a four-set match by a Sunshine State Conference member this season
  • Weisbrod set career-highs in kills (14) and digs (18) for her first-career double-double
  • Koerner contributed 37 assists and a season-high three blocks
  • Pagan also posted a team-high and season-best 25 digs, which was the second-most by an SSC student-athlete in 2025 and the most in a four-set match
  • Zieman added her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Embry-Riddle doubled up Less-McRae 10-5 and kept at least four points of distance for the rest of the set
  • Up 12-8, a 6-0 run with six successful kills capped off by back-to-back spikes from Rujano put ERAU ahead by double digits (18-8)
  • The Eagles continued to pour it on by ending the set on a 7-2 run to soundly win 25-11 on an ace from Lexie Hage
Second Set
  • A 4-4 set was quickly turned lopsided as the Blue and Gold constructed a 7-0 spurt including a couple of additional aces from Hage
  • The streaky scoring continued as the Bobcats answered with four straight points, but Embry-Riddle followed by grabbing five of the next six (16-9), including two kills from Ruby Owen
  • With the Eagles in control 23-16, LMC attempted a large charge with a 4-0 run, but a Manjack kill and Bobcat attacking error gave ERAU the set 25-20
Third Set
  • Set three was closely contested
  • Embry-Riddle managed a couple of 3-0 runs to lead 11-8 and later 15-13, but unanswered point streaks of four and five tallies by Lees-McRae had the opposition in the lead 19-16
  • With the deficit still at three, Zieman helped level the score with two kills and then concluded another 3-0 streak with an ace to give the Eagles the opportunity to capture the match point (24-22)  
  • Rujano's sixth kill of the set earned a 25-23 set win for the Blue and Gold

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Embry-Riddle recorded triple the amount of kills as its opposition in the first set (15-5)
  • In that same set, ERAU held Lees-McRae to a hit percentage of .03
  • The Eagles posted more kills (42-28), aces (7-3), and digs (58-41) than the Bobcats
  • Embry-Riddle's 58 digs were the most by an SSC member in three sets this season
  • ERAU hit .275 in the match, a season high
  • Olivia Hartmann posted a career-high in kills (2)
  • Ashley Lunt received her first-career kill
  • Hage tallied a season-best four aces
