Volleyball Wins Battle of the Eagles Against Ashland

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Embry-Riddle Volleyball closed out the Flagler Invitational with a sweep over Ashland on Saturday. ERAU posted its best defensive outing of the young season by holding AU to a hit percentage of .017. Four members of the Blue and Gold recorded double-digit digs led by Gabriela Pagan (19) with Stella Weisbrod (12), Dakota Zieman (12) and Ashlyn Koerner (11) also reaching double figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Embry-Riddle was in complete control in the first two sets
  • After Ashland took the first two points, ERAU scored seven unanswered with a trio of kills from Isabella Rujano
  • The lead was built up to 11 points (16-5) after Embry-Riddle strung together six-straight points thanks to five Ashland miscues
  • Another 6-0 spurt pushed ERAU ahead 22-6, and the Blue and Gold eventually won 25-11
Second Set
  • Set two was more of the same as Embry-Riddle started with nine-straight points that included two aces from Koerner and a pair of kills by Kailey Hrbek
  • The lead worked its way up to double digits, and ERAU closed the set on a 6-1 streak to win 25-12 as Olivia Hartmann joined the action with two kills
Third Set
  • Embry-Riddle appeared to be well on its way to a sweep as it rushed out to a 7-2 advantage on the back of three successful spikes from Rujano
  • Up 18-12, Ashland got back into the mix with a 6-1 run
  • ERAU reached the potential match point after a kill from Zieman, but Ashland answered with two points to snatch the lead at 25-24
  • A couple of rallies later, the opposition still led by one (27-26)
  • Rujano pushed a spike down to the court to even the score, and Ashland then tallied two attacking errors to give Embry-Riddle the 29-27 set win 

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Embry-Riddle held Ashland to a negative hit percentage in each of the first two sets (-.152, -.083)
  • The team's 65 digs were the most by a Sunshine State Conference member in a three-set match this season
  • ERAU also notched a season-low three service errors
  • Rujano had double the amount of kills as Ashland's entire team in the first set (6-3)
  • Weisbrod picked up her second career double-double in just the last three matches with 10 kills and 12 digs
  • Koerner received her fourth double-double of the year with 26 assists and 11 digs
