Embry-Riddle Makes Historic Strides with First-Ever Expansion of AIMS’ Team Climate Technology in Department-Wide Initiative

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Athletics has made a historic stride forward in the mission to improve the student-athlete experience, utilizing a groundbreaking partnership with UK-based innovation company AIMS Insights.

Embry-Riddle has become the first athletics department in the world to expand the use of Mimir, a team psychological climate and performance platform pioneered to assist multiple sports on campus.

Mimir is a measurement and analysis tool for psychological and cultural environment within teams. By capturing daily insights through structured assessments, the platform gives coaches a 3-4 day early-warning window on emerging challenges and opportunities, empowering them to act proactively to support wellbeing and improve performance.

After a successful first year with the men's and women's soccer program, Embry-Riddle is proud to lead the way by rolling out Mimir to the tennis, volleyball, and golf programs with plans to expand into other sports soon. This move positions Embry-Riddle at the forefront of athlete development and sports innovation.

"Working with visionary, early-adopter programs like Embry-Riddle is critical in shaping this new data field," said Dr. Steve Smith, Chief Scientific Officer at AIMS Insights. "In our first year together, we saw over 10,000 submissions and with more than 70,000 data points across the soccer teams. This proved that not only will athletes engage with the software, but they are motivated to contribute insights that help their team grow. To now see Embry-Riddle become the first athletics department in the world to scale Mimir across multiple sports is a milestone moment for athlete development."

The partnership has also been supported by Embry-Riddle Men's Soccer alumnus Ian Thompson (2003–07), who has helped connect AIMS with his alma mater and supported the expansion of the platform across the athletics department.

"As an alumnus, it's been incredibly rewarding to support Embry-Riddle as they've embraced Mimir," said Thompson. "To see it grow from soccer into a department-wide initiative is proof of the university's vision and its commitment to innovation for the benefit of student-athletes."

Embry-Riddle Director of Athletics Dr. Rachel Burleson added, "Embry-Riddle is proud to lead the way in this world-first initiative with AIMS Insights. Being the first athletics department to expand Mimir across multiple sports demonstrates our commitment to innovation and to providing our student-athletes with the best possible resources. The insights we've gained not only strengthen our programs but also ensure we continue building an environment where our athletes thrive both on and off the field."

With this historic step, Embry-Riddle cements its role as a global leader in sports innovation, joining professional teams in the UK and NCAA programs in the U.S. who are already working with AIMS to better understand and shape performance environments.
