Volleyball Dominates Rollins in SSC Opener

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Embry-Riddle Volleyball started Sunshine State Conference play with a bang as the Eagles swept Rollins on Friday night. ERAU overwhelmed the Tars, as was evident in the box score as the Eagles held a huge advantage in hit percentage with a mark of .340 compared to Rollins' .118. The match culminated with a convincing third-set win of 25-9 as Embry-Riddle handed Rollins its first sweep of the season.

First Set

  • The lead increased to five (18-13) but back-to-back aces started a 4-0 run for the visitors, and Embry-Riddle's lead was cut to one (18-17)
  • Zieman led the late-set charge by capturing three of the Eagles' next five points to go ahead 23-19
  • ERAU took the set 25-22
Second Set
  • Zieman and Kailey Hrbek registered a pair of kills to force an early timeout by the Tars, with ERAU up 6-2
  • The lead reached double digits (17-7) with 10 of the Eagles' next 11 points coming from kills from five different members of the Blue and Gold
  • Rollins cut Embry-Riddle's lead to six (19-13), but the Eagles held on to take the set, 25-17
  • ERAU was the more dominant team at the net, outblocking Rollins 3-0
