Home Opener Ends in a 1-1 Draw for the Eagles

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 19-ranked Embry-Riddle Women's Soccer and RV Florida Tech had a back-and-forth game that ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening for the first meeting in the newly installed Kármán Clash rivalry series. The Eagles took the lead in the 60th minute after Lauryn Mateo put her shot in the top corner from a tight angle. The Panthers would hit the crossbar twice on the night, before eventually finding the back of the net in the 86th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Early in the second half, Anna Marisa Lara tested the Panthers goalkeeper, forcing a save to keep the match scoreless.
  • In the 60th minute, Mateo was able to turn past her defender, off of a throw in from Thea Nyberg, and place a high-arcing shot over the goalie and into the top corner that put the Eagles in front.
  • After Mateo's goal, the Panthers started to take control. ERAU did not attempt another shot in the game.
  • Florida Tech hit the crossbar once again late in the 2nd half, when Alice Mottershead was denied in the 84th minute.
