KENOSHA, Wis. – The Embry-Riddle men's cross country team traveled north over the weekend to compete in a stacked field at the Lucian Rosa Invitational, which featured 10 teams mentioned in the Week 2 USTFCCCA national poll, including eight ranked squads and two receiving votes.
Junior Nicholas Scarangelli turned in the Eagles' top performance, placing 29th overall in 25:14.8 against the nationally ranked competition. Freshman Taye Newman was the team's second finisher in 26:10.3, followed closely by freshman Henry Friedrichs (26:17.7). Freshman Elijah Wiggins stepped up as the fourth scorer for the Blue and Gold in 26:30.2, while sophomore Joseph Koraya rounded out the scoring with a time of 26:33.
As a team, Embry-Riddle placed 13th out of 24 programs. The field included No. 2 Colorado School of Mines, No. 3 Adams State, No. 6 Lee, No. 10 Saginaw Valley State, No. 14 UC-Colorado Springs, No. 21 Alabama Huntsville, No. 28 Illinois-Springfield, RV Cedarville and RV Anderson (S.C.). The Eagles knocked off No. 28 Illinois-Springfield and RV Cedarville.
"The men went out to compete in a very talented and deep race," head coach Mike Rosolino said. "Many paid the price for going out too hard on a challenging course. I thought Nick and the freshmen had great races. While we had hoped for a higher finish, I'm satisfied with our effort."
