Volleyball Wraps Up Bahama House Classic With Pair of Hard-Fought Matches

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Both of Embry-Riddle Volleyball's matches went the distance during day two of the Bahama House Classic. The Eagles were involved in a pair of five-set contests, edging RV Flagler 3-2 before falling to Sioux Falls 3-2 in the finale. 

Multiple members of the Blue and Gold filled the stat sheet as Isabella Rujano recorded 36 kills, Ashlyn Koerner added an impressive 97 assists, and Gabriela Pagan contributed 39 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • The Saints used three aces to take an early 6-3 lead
  • Embry-Riddle stayed within three points at 17-14, with over a third of Flagler's points coming from aces (6)
  • FC claimed five of the last six points to take set one 25-18
Second Set
  • The Saints took an 8-3 lead
  • From there, the Eagles rattled off five straight points to tie the set thanks to three kills and an ace
  • FC regained a three-point lead, but Embry-Riddle responded with six-consecutive scores led by a pair of successful spikes from Fifi Harvey to lead 19-16
  • ERAU took advantage of Flagler miscues as four of the Eagles' final five points were from errors by the Saints
  • Embry-Riddle took the set 25-22
Third Set
  • Set three was back and forth with the score level at 16-16
  • From there, Embry-Riddle tallied five points in a row, four of which were from Flagler errors
  • With the score at 21-16, the Blue and Gold captured four of the last six points to go up two sets to one
Fourth Set
  • The Saints had the upper hand early on with five unanswered points to begin
  • With Embry-Riddle down 7-3, the Eagles went on a 7-1 run with a trio of kills from Harvey to go ahead 9-8
  • That lead grew to four with a 5-1 spurt that included a pair of kills from Dakota Zieman (15-11)
  • Flagler fought back with a 5-0 run to tie it at 20
  • Even at 24-24, FC registered two kills to send the match to a fifth set
Fifth Set
  • Once again, the visitors came out of the break hot as Embry-Riddle fell behind 5-1
  • The mid-set side swap was the break the Eagles needed to regroup after facing an 8-4 deficit
  • Haley Manjack then pushed home back-to-back kills while Harvey aced her next serve to bring Embry-Riddle within one
  • With Flagler still in front (11-8) Embry-Riddle took complete control by claiming six-straight points and seven of the final eight to come from behind and win 15-12
  • Isabella Rujano led the charge with three kills in that span

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Embry-Riddle was efficient offensively in the later stages of the match, posting hit percentages of .393 and .304 in the third and fifth sets
  • The Eagles held the advantage in blocks (11-10) and digs (73-70)
  • Harvey and Zieman led the attack with 15 kills each
  • Harvey also notched 10 digs, a career high, for her first collegiate double-double
  • Manjack matched her career high with 10 kills with an efficient .471 hit percentage
  • Ashlyn Koerner was a reliable setter, recording 45 assists
  • She added 15 digs for her first double-double of the season
  • Kailey Hrbek's seven rejections led the team and were the most by a Sunshine State Conference student-athlete this season

  • This was the first-ever meeting between the two programs

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • Embry-Riddle started with a 4-3 lead from three miscues by the Cougars
  • A 5-1 run put Sioux Falls ahead 10-6
  • Three consecutive kills from Manjack brought the Eagles back into the set, down just 15-14
  • Sioux Falls responded with a 6-1 run to push ERAU behind 21-15, and the Cougars eventually won 25-19
Second Set
  • The Eagles started with a 6-3 lead
  • Harvey helped spark a 6-2 run with three kills to put Embry-Riddle up six (19-13)
  • Sioux Falls chipped away at the Eagles' lead, fighting off two set points with a 5-1 streak to even the set at 24-24
  • From there, Rujano, Harvey and Zieman registered kills to help the home team take set two 27-25
Third Set
  • ERAU utilized three errors from the visitors to score four unanswered points to go up 5-3
  • Sioux Falls mimicked the Eagles' run to take a 12-11 lead
  • Now down 13-12, Rujano came through with three kills to give Embry-Riddle an advantage at 15-14
  • With a 24-22 set point for ERAU, the Cougars soon retook the lead at 25-24 
  • The Eagles answered with their own three-point run, capped off by a Zieman kill to take another 27-25 set win
Fourth Set
  • Embry-Riddle was in a 7-2 hole early on
  • Six unanswered points from USF increased the deficit to ten (16-6)
  • Sioux Falls eventually claimed the set 25-13 
Fifth Set
  • The Eagles shrugged off the fourth set with a 4-1 start, but the Cougars then captured four of the next five to tie the set 5-5
  • Embry-Riddle regained the lead at 9-7
  • However, USF finished on an 8-4 run to steal the match 

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Embry-Riddle held a 6-4 lead in aces
  • The Eagles also led in digs 64-61
  • Rujano led the team in kills for the first time this season with 23, which is the most in the SSC this season
  • Zieman contributed a season-high 18 kills and earned her second double-double with 10 digs
  • Koerner set a career high in assists with 52, the second most in a match in the SSC in 2025
UP NEXT
Embry-Riddle takes a short trip to Flagler next weekend for the Flagler Saints Invitational from Sept. 12-13. The tournament begins with matches against Lenoir-Rhyne (11 a.m.) and Lees-McRae (5 p.m.) on Friday.
