No. 17 Women’s Basketball Coasts to 87-61 Road Win at Barry

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 17 Embry-Riddle women's basketball went on a 15-0 run in the first quarter of their Saturday matchup against the Buccaneers, setting the tone for a dominant 26 point win. The Eagles led by double digits for the entire second half, seeing three different players score at least 23 points today. ERAU and Barry were reliant upon their starters for almost all of their scoring this afternoon, with the two benches combining for only seven points. The Blue and Gold saw 81 of their points come from inside the paint or at the free throw line, while also holding a 40-25 advantage on the glass.

GAME NOTES
  • Embry-Riddle was ranked No. 17 in the nation in the most recent WBCA Coaches' Poll (Jan. 27).
  • The Eagles now lead the all-time series 13-6 over the Buccaneers.
  • ERAU has now won five of the past six games against Barry, finishing off the season sweep after a 96-52 win earlier this season in the ICI Center.
  • Embry-Riddle is in 3rd place in the SSC, but are only one game behind Eckerd and Nova Southeastern, who are tied for 1st place at 11-2 .

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • Embry-Riddle got a pair of layups in the first minute of the game from Jareah Branch and Anye' Staton to go up 4-0.
  • Barry took their only lead of the game, 5-4, with 7:22 to go, but did not score again until the second quarter.
  • The Eagles ended the period on a 15-0 run, heading into the second with a 19-4 advantage. The Blue and Gold would score 16 of their 19 points inside the paint, along with going 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
  • ERAU went 8-for-16 from the field in the quarter, while also limiting Barry to just two made field goals (2-for-12).
Second Quarter
  • Three consecutive layups to begin the quarter from the Eagles saw them extend their lead to 17., 26-9.
  • The Buccaneers went on a 14-3 run over the next four minutes, trimming the ERAU's lead down to 3.
  • Mary Lengemann would follow that up with six points in the final two minutes of the quarter, pushing Embry-Riddle's lead back up to 41-28 at the break.
  • Eliana Sheplee finished the half with 12 points and five rebounds, the only ERAU player to play all 20 minutes.
  • Barry recorded 21 made field goals in the game, with nearly half of them (10) coming in the second quarter. 
  • Akvile Babraityte registered 15 of her 17 points in the game within the quarter, going 7-for-7 from the field.
Third Quarter
  • Embry-Riddle ran away with the game coming out of halftime, pushing their lead up to more than 20 in the first few minutes back from the break.
  • Sheplee stayed hot in the third quarter, going 5-of-5 from the field, scoring an additional 10 points and three rebounds.
  • Within the 3rd quarter, the Eagles outscored the Buccaneers 24-4 for points in the paint. The inside presence led to the Blue and Gold going 13-for-18 on field goals in the period.
Fourth Quarter
  • ERAU had five different players record a made basket in the final quarter, with Lengemann leading the way with another eight points, finishing the game with a career-high 24 points.
  • Branch would score the final five points of the game for the Eagles, finishing off the best game of her young career. She set a career high in a handful of statistics: minutes (37), points (23), rebounds (12), made field goals (8), and made free throws (7).
  • Embry-Riddle was able to slow down the Barry offense, not giving up a single fast break field goal during the game, outsourcing the Buccaneers on the break, 19-0.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Eliana Sheplee continues to lead the SSC in scoring, averaging 21.2 points per game so far this season. 
  • Her 24 points and 11 rebounds marked her eighth double-double of the season. She has scored at least 20 points in seven of those eight games.
  • The Eagles' 87 points in the game are the most points they have scored since December 13, 2025, their 96-52 win against Barry at the ICI Center earlier this season.
  • For the first time this season, Embry-Riddle changed their starting lineup. Anye' Staton earned her fifth career start, finishing the game with ten points and six rebounds.
  • This was the first game since February 13, 2016 that the Eagles did not record a made three.
UP NEXT
The Eagles have got a bye on Wednesday, taking a full week off until they return to the court next Saturday when they travel to face Tampa. That tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Bob Martinez Athletics Center. Embry-Riddle earned a narrow 67-65 win over Tampa on January 17 in their first matchup of the season.
