Mail to Play for ITA Regional Title

LAKELAND, Fla. – For the first time in Embry-Riddle's NCAA II era, the Eagles will have a finalist in the men's singles bracket of the ITA DII South Region tournament as senior Marc Mail secured a spot in the tournament championship with a pair of victories on Sunday.

The day began with three Eagles playing in the quarterfinal round of the three-day, 64-player competition. Mail was the first to wrap up his round-of-eight match, besting No. 9 Alejandro Vizoso Ansedes of Mississippi College 6-1, 6-2.

A few hours later, Mail faced a familiar opponent in his teammate and doubles partner Enrico Rosellini in the semifinal round. Rosellini rebounded from a 6-0 loss in his first set against Robert Watzka to top his second-seeded opponent from Lynn 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) to advance.

Mail and Rosellini met in the semifinal on Sunday afternoon where Mail prevailed 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7) to punch his ticket to Monday's championship match.

The other half of the bracket saw Manuel Lanteri outlast West Alabama's Matias Iturbe 6-4, 2-6 1-0 (10-7). Lanteri's tournament run came to an end in the semifinals, however, when he fell to fourth-seeded Louay Makke 7-5, 7-5.

Prior to facing each other on opposite sides of the net, Mail and Rosellini teamed up in doubles play. They were unable to make it out of the quarterfinal round falling to Iturbe and Kuzma Gomziakov 8-7 (7-3).

Mail and Makke will play each other for the tournament title at 10 a.m. on Monday.
