Men’s Tennis Goes 4-0 on Day Two of ITA Nationals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis team was perfect on the second day of the ITA DII National Championships with a 3-0 record in singles and a 1-0 ledger in doubles on Thursday.

Enrico Rosellini notched a straight-set win to open the day for the Eagles, downing West Alabama's Matias Iturbe. After taking the first set, Rosellini went up 4-1 in the second. Iturbe registered a break and a hold to cut the lead to 5-4, but Rosellini won his next service game to move into the round of eight where he will face University of Texas-Tyler's Malo Poulesquen on Friday.

Manuel Lanteri recorded the Eagles' second win of the day after holding off Mississippi Christian's Matias Ruiz in straight sets. After taking the first set 6-4, Lanteri fell behind 5-1 in the second. The ERAU senior steadily worked his way back into the set registering three breaks and a pair of holds to go up 6-5. Serving for the match, Lanteri and Ruiz played to 40-40. At golden point, Lanteri challenged Ruiz's baseline out call and won the challenge to win the set 7-5 and advance to the quarterfinal. His next opponent will be second-seeded Harry Pugh of Lander.

In the consolation bracket, Marc Mail went the distance against Texas-Permian Basin's Nehal Naidoo. The first set went to Mail (6-2) and Naidoo took the second 6-4 to set up a decisive third set. Twelve games weren't enough to decide the third resulting in a tiebreaker which Mail won 7-6 (4).

Mail was back on the court less than two hours later, teaming up with Rosellini in doubles. The ERAU duo outlasted Southern Arkansas' Uwe Diehl and Jonas Sommer 6-4 in the first set and closed out the match 6-2 in the second. They will take on Mississippi Christian's Joshua Hinton and Charles Lefort in Friday's quarterfinal.
