RV Women’s Basketball Cruises Over Rollins in 78-50 Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – RV Embry-Riddle women's basketball went on a 17-0 run in the first quarter against Rollins on Wednesday night and never looked back from there. The Eagles would go on to lead by at least 20 for the entire second half against the Tars. All 11 players that dressed out for the Eagles saw the court, with nine of them getting on the score sheet. Maya Collins recorded a career-high 12 points on four made threes off of the bench, with the team hitting a season-high seven shots from beyond the arc this evening. The Blue and Gold also added 21 second chance points, outrebounding Rollins 47-32.

GAME NOTES
  • The Eagles lead the all-time series 14-6 over the Tars.
  • ERAU has won 12 of the last 13 meetings against Rollins, including a 76-66 win earlier this season.
  • Embry-Riddle is tied for 3rd place in the SSC with Florida Southern, with the two teams matching up on Saturday, February 14. They are each two games back of first place with five games left to play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • The Tars opened the game with a three from Faith Newton on their first possession to take a 3-0 lead, but did not make another field goal for the next seven minutes.
  • Embry-Riddle answered with a 17-0 run, started by a layup from Laurie Satchell and a three from Eliana Sheplee.
  • Back-to-back buckets from Mary Lengemann, who had six total points in the quarter, pushed the lead to 9-3 with 6:42 left.
  • Each of the Eagles' final 14 points of the quarter came in the paint, as ERAU took a 23-10 lead into the second period.
  • All three of Rollins' made field goals in the period came from beyond the arc, with their only other point coming at the free-throw line.
Second Quarter
  • Bianca Negreiros and Alyssa Brasko combined for the first three points of the quarter, quickly extending Embry-Riddle's lead to 16.
  • The Eagles shot .500 (7-for-14) from the field in the quarter while holding Rollins to .267 (4-for-15), including 0-for-5 from beyond the arc.
  • Two consecutive field goals from Brasko in the final minutes gave her six points in the quarter and pushed Embry-Riddle's lead to 39-18, its largest of the half.
  • With 1:40 left, Jareah Branch grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a layup, finishing the half with eight points and six rebounds.
Third Quarter
  • Laurie Satchell opened the quarter with a pair of free throws on the first possession, two of the seven ERAU made in the period.
  • After scoring just 20 points in the entire first half, the Tars matched that total in the third quarter alone, but the Eagles kept pace, winning the quarter 21-20.
  • The Blue and Gold's final 11 points of the quarter came off the bench, highlighted by a pair of threes from Collins and field goals from Anye' Staton and Brasko.
Fourth Quarter
  • Eliana Sheplee scored two of Embry-Riddle's first three field goals of the quarter and finished with a game-high 14 points.
  • The Eagles tallied five assists and seven second-chance points in the quarter, outscoring Rollins 17-10 in the final period.
  • ERAU closed the game on an 11-3 run over the final 5:41, with each of its last three field goals coming from beyond the arc.

The Eagles will host Florida Southern on Senior Night on Saturday, February 14, at 2:00 p.m. Embry-Riddle will honor their four seniors, Mary Lengemann, Kailey Turpening, Ashley Woodfin, and Laurie Satchell prior to tipoff. ERAU and the Mocs will break their tie for third place on Saturday, with both teams entering the game with an 11-4 record in the SSC.
