Women’s Basketball Erupts For Record Night With 106-83 Win Against Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Embry-Riddle women's basketball delivered a historic offensive performance Saturday afternoon, scoring the most points in program history against an SSC opponent in a 106–83 win over Lynn. The Blue and Gold finished just four points shy of the program's all-time scoring record while posting a top-five mark in made field goals (40) and field goal percentage (.588). Anye' Staton led the way with a career-high 28 points as four other Eagles reached double figures. ERAU also shot .615 (8-for-13) from three-point range and .857 (18-for-21) at the free-throw line.

GAME NOTES
  • The Eagles now lead the all-time series 15-6 over the Fighting Knights.
  • ERAU has won each of the last five meetings against Lynn, winning every matchup since March 2024. 
  • Embry-Riddle has guaranteed themselves a home matchup in the SSC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 3. The Blue and Gold are only one game back of 1st place, with two games left in the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • The Eagles wasted no time getting on the board, as Eliana Sheplee converted a layup just 20 seconds into the game. ERAU went on to score 20 points in the paint during the period.
  • Back-to-back buckets from Anye' Staton gave Embry-Riddle an 8-7 lead with 7:17 remaining. In just her second start of the season, Staton tallied 10 points and four rebounds in the opening quarter.
  • The buckets from Staton would start a 14-0 run for the Blue and Gold, which ended with ERAU leading 20-7 and still 4:38 left to play.
  • Off the bench, Alyssa Brasko added eight points in the final 3:17 of the quarter, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field including a pair of three-pointers.
  • Two late layups from Mary Lengemann in the final minute extended the Eagles' advantage to 34-18 heading into the second quarter.
  • Embry-Riddle went 14-for-21 (.667) from the field in the period, while outrebounding the Fighting Knights 12-3.
Second Quarter
  • The Eagles' starting five accounted for every point in the quarter, taking all 12 shots and converting seven of them.
  • ERAU started the quarter with consecutive fast break layups from Jareah Branch and Sheplee. Throughout the game, the Blue and Gold outscored Lynn 18-0 in fast break points.
  • A 6-0 run, highlighted by a pair of buckets from Lengemann, extended Embry-Riddle's lead to 45-30 with 3:33 remaining before halftime.
  • The offensive onslaught would continue with the Eagles scoring on four consecutive possessions to end the quarter, leading by 16 at 54-38, when the buzzer sounded.
  • Embry-Riddle shot better than 60% in the half and were 4-for-4 from deep, finishing the half with three times as many rebounds as Lynn (21-7).
Third Quarter
  • Without Laurie Satchell today, ERAU's starting five (Turpening, Branch, Sheplee, Lengemann, and Staton) accounted for 53 consecutive points, which included all 47 points during the second and third quarters.
  • The Blue and Gold opened the period on a 7-0 run, sparked by a three-pointer from Turpening to extend the lead to 61-38. With the make, Embry-Riddle improved to 5-for-5 from beyond the arc to start the game.
  • Lynn was able to cut the lead to under 20 briefly, but five straight points from Sheplee in a 90-second span put the Eagles up 78-55.
  • Turpening knocked down another three to cap the quarter at 81-60. ERAU's eight made three-pointers marked its highest total in a game this season.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Fighting Knights began the quarter on a 7-2 run, making the score 83-67 with under 8:00 left to play.
  • Turpening and Brasko combined for the next seven points for ERAU, pushing the lead back to 21 at 90-69. 
  • Six different Eagles provided an assist in the fourth quarter, with the team recording a season-high 25 assists throughout the game.
  • The last three field goals of the game for Embry-Riddle came from the freshman guards of Bianca Negreiros and Maya Collins, with a jumper from Negreiros making it 106-78.

INSIDE THE STATS
  • The Blue and Gold were able to push the pace offensively, scoring 21 points off of Lynn turnovers and recording 18 fast break points. Defensively, ERAU held Lynn scoreless on the fast break during the game.
  • The Eagles made more threes than their opponent for the fourth time this season. They are now 4-0 in those contests.
  • 83 points are the most that ERAU has given up in a game this season, but Embry-Riddle only gave up 19 rebounds in the game, the fewest an SSC team has had this season.
  • The Eagles have a 19-1 record this season when outrebounding their opponents.

UP NEXT
The Eagles will travel to Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday, February 25, at 5:30 p.m. This will begin the final week of the 2025-26 regular season, with ERAU ensuring they will still have a chance to earn a share of the conference title with a win at PBA. The Sailfish currently have an 8-10 record in the SSC, sitting in a tie for 6th place.
