No. 5 Eagles Throttle Spartans in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – Newly ranked No. 5 in NCAA Division II according to the latest ITA Coaches Poll, Embry-Riddle backed up its rise Saturday with a dominant 6-1 Sunshine State Conference victory over Tampa.
The Eagles won eight of nine total matches on the day, sweeping doubles before claiming straight-set victories at positions two through six in singles play.

  • Embry-Riddle improved to 13-5 all-time against the Spartans.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Embry-Riddle swept doubles play to secure the opening point. Laura Cuesta Bret and Daniela Fernandez Junquera won at No. 1, Mariana Cabrera and Ashley Moinard were victorious at No. 2, and Amelie Gindl and Benedetta Sensi completed the sweep at No. 3.
  • At No. 4 singles, Fernandez Junquera extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ida Axelsson.
  • Moinard quickly  followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Maxence Lippens.
  • At No. 6 singles, Franziska Kremerskothen secured the team victory in straight sets, battling to a 7-5 first-set win before closing with a dominant 6-0 second set.
  • Cuesta Bret added a 6-3, 6-4 win over Nicole Casas at No. 2 singles.
  • At No. 3 singles, Sensi capped the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Karine Kulidjian.
UP NEXT
Embry-Riddle returns home Monday, March 2 at 2 p.m. for a top-10 matchup against No. 9 Washburn at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
