Upset Bid Falls Short for Men's Tennis in Conference Opener

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The 15th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to top-ranked Barry (2-0, 1-0) in both teams' Sunshine State Conference opener on Saturday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles swept all three doubles matches, but narrowly missed out on securing the singles points they needed, moving to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The 25th-ranked tandem of Marc Mail and Enrico Rosellini scored the first win of the day with a 6-4 defeat of Riccardo Trione and Simone Cavalleri at the top doubles spot
• Manuel Lanteri and Joshua Nuyts rallied to knot the score at 6-6 and won the tiebreaker by topping Adam Lynch and Thomas Machado7-2 to assure the Blue and Gold of the doubles point.
• On court three, Mason Cisco and Joao Morgado teamed up for a 7-6 (2) tiebreaker win over Yan Kodjoed and Antonin Chapiusto to complete the sweep.
• After the Bucs evened the score with their first singles win on court four, Morgado put the Eagles back in front with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Cooper Dillon at No. 6
• Mail notched the Eagles second singles point by holding off Barry's top-flight player Trione 6-4, 6-4.
• Barry earned wins at the second and third spots to tie the team score at 3-3.
• Playing in the deciding match on court five, Nuyts split sets with Chapiusto and despite winning three games in a row to cut the lead to 5-4 in the third, he was unable to register a break, giving Chapiusto the win (2-6, 6-3, 6-4).
 
UP NEXT
The Eagles will look to bounce back next Saturday when they play their first road match of the season. The Blue and Gold will travel to Valdosta, Georgia to take on second-ranked Valdosta State at 1 p.m.
