Tim Keefe’s Six Goals Sees RV Men’s Lacrosse Defeat Alabama-Huntsville 20-9

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – RV Embry-Riddle men's lacrosse put on a near record-breaking performance in their 20-9 win over Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday afternoon. As a team, the Eagles posted five top-five performances in program history, finishing tied for second in goals (20), tied for fourth in assists (11) and faceoff wins (24), third in points (31) and second in shots (54). The Chargers only trailed 7-6 with five minutes left in the first half, but ERAU would go on to score 13 unanswered goals, holding UAH scoreless until the fourth quarter. With 20 goals scored, 10 different Eagles found the back of the net, including six players with two or more goals.

GAME NOTES
  • Embry-Riddle was receiving votes in the preseason USILA Division II Poll (Jan. 27).
  • The Eagles now lead the all-time series 4-2 over the Chargers, winning each of the last four matchups. The two teams have now played in five consecutive seasons.
  • ERAU is averaging 13.2 goals per game when playing against Alabama-Huntsville.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • The Eagles and Chargers were each on the scoreboard within the first two minutes of the game, seeing Aydan Weiszhar and Tim Keefe record an early goal.
  • UAH would find the back of the net once again, less than three minutes into the game. But, Luke Barber responded by picking up the ground ball on the ensuing faceoff and getting the goal back just 14 seconds later. It was 2-2 with 11:07 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Gavin Young put ERAU in front for the first time with a goal at the 6:21 mark, and Barber had a carbon copy of his first goal, making it 4-2 just 13 seconds after Young's goal.
  • The Blue and Gold won all eight faceoffs in the opening quarter, leading to a 16-4 shot advantage, while also winning the ground ball battle, 13-3.
Second Quarter
  • Down by three heading into the quarter, the Chargers got off to a great start with Griffin Utz taking the faceoff down the field and making it 5-3 just 10 seconds into the second.
  • A goal from each of Christopher Harper and Leo Mileto gave ERAU a four-goal lead at 7-3 with under ten minutes to go before halftime. The two teams would go on to combine for nine more goals in the final 9:04.
  • Three straight goals from Alabama-Huntsville made it 7-6, with Weiszhar scoring his second of the game and Bertils netting back-to-back goals. However, UAH would not score again for the next 20 minutes of the game.
  • Keefe and Mac Goodman would start to run away with the game, combining for the final six goals of the half. Keefe scored four goals in the final 3:30, recording a goal or an assist on six of the next eight goals for Embry-Riddle.
  • Heading into the break, the Eagles had turned the 7-6 contest into a 13-6 advantage. 
Third Quarter
  • Keefe continued his hot streak out of halftime, making it 14-6 within the first 90 seconds of the third quarter.
  • The Eagles would keep their foot on the gas for the remainder of the quarter, outscoring UAH 6-0, including outshooting the Chargers 18-4 in the period.
  • ERAU would take advantage of an offside penalty against Alabama-Huntsville with Lucas Anthony scoring a man-up goal to make it 15-6.
  • Matthew Hawkins made it back-to-back games with a goal for him, scoring two goals in the quarter, including the final goal of the period to put the Blue and Gold ahead 19-6.
  • Connor Hinson has now scored or assisted in every game this season, with his second goal of the season coming in the quarter.
Fourth Quarter
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Since the start of last year, Embry-Riddle is now 9-1 when playing at ERAU Lacrosse Field.
  • ERAU was up 19-6 heading into the fourth quarter this afternoon, meaning they outscored teams 26-7 through Quarters 1-3 in their two wins this weekend.
  • With his six goals and pair of assists today, Tim Keefe has reached 50 points with the Eagles and is only five goals away from 100 career goals.
  • Christopher Harper surpassed the 50 career points mark with a hat-trick and two assists against the Chargers today.
  • Vinnie Spolidoro is up to 50 career ground balls, recording three ground balls in each of Embry-Riddle's games this season.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will take on No. 8 Anderson on Saturday, February 14 in a neutral site game in Jacksonville, Florida. That match will be played 1:30 PM at The Bolles School. The Trojans are 1-0 to begin the season, beating North Greenville 19-10 on February 7.
