Two Eagles Earn SSC Player of the Week Honors

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Jareah Branch and Daniela Fernandez Junquera were named Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week in their respective sports on Monday afternoon for their performances over the last seven days.

Women's Basketball

For the first time this season and in her career, Jareah Branch was named the SSC Defensive Player of the Week. 

Branch and the Eagles finished the last week of the regular season with a perfect 2-0 record after a pair of two-point wins on the road over Palm Beach Atlantic and Saint Leo. On Wednesday night, Branch had 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and a block in the 73-71 victory against the Sailfish. In Saturday's contest, the freshman guard played a career high 39 minutes, with a near triple-double performance including 11 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

Embry-Riddle will begin postseason play on Tuesday, March 3, when they host Lynn in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference tournament at 7 p.m. With a win over the Fighting Knights, ERAU would also host the semifinals in the ICI Center on Thursday evening.

Women's Tennis

Fernandez Junquera earned SSC Women's Tennis Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after a strong four-match showing across two team victories.

Competing at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles in both matches, Fernandez Junquera and the Eagles first faced No. 22 Auburn Montgomery in a neutral site match at Columbus State. She and Laura Cuesta Bret opened the day with a 7-6 tiebreak win over Melissa Yakup Pour and Nagisa Yonezawa. She carried that momentum into singles play, defeating Allison Blanco 6-1, 6-2.

Later in the week, the Eagles secured a 6-1 victory over Tampa. Fernandez Junquera and Cuesta Bret once again delivered in doubles, defeating Karine Kulidijan and Ida Axelsson 6-2. In singles, Fernandez Junquera capped her week with a straight-set win over Axelsson, 6-1, 6-3.
