No. 5 Women’s Lacrosse Uses Historic Performance to Beat Lander 19-8

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 5 Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse earned its eighth win of the season on Thursday evening, defeating Lander 19-8. The Eagles were led by Eliana Enners, who scored a record-tying eight goals while adding nine points and eight ground balls. Each of those marks ranks among the top 10 in program history for a single-game performance. Along with their success on the attack, the Eagles turned in a strong defensive effort, causing a season-high 13 turnovers and collecting 28 ground balls, tied for the eighth-most in a game in program history. After the teams were even at 5-5 at the end of the first quarter, ERAU allowed just three goals the rest of the way.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • After controlling the opening draw, Lander scored the first goal of the night as Kylie Fragala found the back of the net on the first possession of the game.
  • The Bearcats would add two more goals in quick succession to build their lead up to 3-0 in the first four minutes. Fragala scored her second–and the team's third–with 11:18 left in the quarter.
  • Less than a minute after an early timeout from the ERAU bench, Ava Rogala got the Eagles on the scoreboard from an assist by Callison Foreman. It was the 23rd goal of the season for Rogala.
  • Embry-Riddle forced a pair of turnovers on the ride following the goal, and Rogala then recorded an assist on the team's second score, finished by Natalie Jansky at the 8:11 mark.
  • Fragala completed her hat trick less than eight minutes into the game when she made the game 4-2 just 40 seconds after Jansky's goal.
  • Not to be outdone, Jansky provided a hat trick of assists over the next 90 seconds, turning the Blue and Gold's two-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage. Ashley Albert scored the first of the three goals before Eliana Enners tied the game at four.
  • RJ Ensor gave ERAU five goals from five different players, highlighting the team's unselfish play as each goal was assisted.
  • Lander briefly tied the game at 5-5, but a late woman-up goal from Enners gave Embry-Riddle a 6-5 lead at the end of the period.
Second Quarter
  • The Blue and Gold would hold on to the lead for the remainder of the night and started off the scoring in the second quarter with a free position shot from Jordan Davis in the first minute.
  • Davis had a second chance from eight meters out just 90 seconds later but saw her latest attempt saved. Enners would follow it up by scoring her third goal of the game with 11:22 left in the half.
  • ERAU pushed its lead to 9-5 after Enners converted on a free-position attempt while the Eagles held a two-player advantage. A green card and a non-releasable yellow card were issued to Lander just prior to the junior midfielder's goal.
  • Lander's struggles in the second quarter were evident through seven fouls and five turnovers in the first ten minutes. The Bearcats were held without a shot during that stretch until a timeout allowed them to regroup. Sophie Warren eventually broke through with a woman-up goal after Ella-Rae Cox recorded a pair of saves to deny Lander.
Third Quarter
  • Embry-Riddle would turn it up defensively again coming out of halftime, limiting Lander to just one shot in the third quarter and forcing nine turnovers. The Bearcats struggled to get out of their own end, going 1-for-5 on clears in the period.
  • Enners would force the first turnover of the quarter after Lander controlled the draw, converting it into her fifth goal of the game off an assist from Jansky, which gave her four on the evening.
  • Ensor made it 11-6 at the 12:56 mark of the quarter from an assist by Rogala but Lander quickly grabbed the goal back through Morgan Hill at 12:17.
  • The game then went more than 10 minutes without a goal before Enners and Ensor each found the back of the net again in the final two minutes of the quarter, giving the Blue and Gold a 13-7 advantage heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • Ensor made it a career-high five goals in the beginning of the fourth quarter when she found the back of the net after Enners provided her first assist of the night.
  • The Eagles' leading scorer quickly added to her total, netting her seventh and eighth goals less than 60 seconds apart to extend ERAU's lead to 16-7 with 7:43 remaining.
  • Foreman began the running clock when she put Embry-Riddle up 17-7 with a woman-up goal before the Canadian grabbed her second of the night in quick succession at 4:13.
  • The evening was capped off by a woman-down goal from the Bearcats before Albert finished off Jansky's fifth assist in the final minute of the game to wrap up the game at 19-8.
