Women's Tennis Falls to Nova Southeastern in NCAA II South Regional Second Round

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle women's tennis fought hard in a match lasting well over three hours Saturday morning, but saw its season come to a close in a 4-1 loss to Nova Southeastern in the NCAA Division II South Regional Second Round at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles closed out a remarkable 2026 campaign at 23-3, one of the program's finest records in recent memory, before bowing out to the Sharks, who entered the day at 18-7.

  • Saturday's match was the second meeting between the two programs this season, with the teams splitting the series 1-1 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Embry-Riddle struck first, winning the doubles point to open the match. The No. 3 duo of Mariana Cabrera and Ashley Moinard posted a convincing 6-3 win, and the No. 2 pairing of Daniela Fernandez Junquera and Benedetta Sensi followed with a 6-4 victory to clinch the doubles point for the Eagles.
  • Singles play proved to be the difference, as Nova Southeastern's nationally ranked lineup responded in the top three flights. Ranked No. 21 Amelie Gindl battled the Sharks' No. 1 Kristyna Hranacova before falling 6-2, 6-1, while Laura Cuesta Bret pushed NSU's No. 41 Katja Markus the distance before dropping a 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 decision.
  • The Eagles refused to go quietly. Ranked No. 29 Daniela Fernandez extended her match against Noemie Dadoun deep into a third set, and Ashley Moinard did the same, with both matches left unfinished as Nova Southeastern clinched, a testament to Embry-Riddle's depth and fight until the final point.

SEASON SNIPPETS
It was a season full of firsts and hardware for Embry-Riddle. Fernandez Junquera was named SSC Freshman of the Year, giving Embry-Riddle the award for the third consecutive season. Head Coach Chad Berryhill was honored as SSC Coach of the Year, a fitting recognition of a season that saw the Eagles reach historic heights. Sensi added to the accolades with an All-SSC Second Team selection, capping a standout individual campaign.
As a program, Embry-Riddle achieved milestones that will be remembered for years to come. The Eagles climbed to a national ranking of No. 2, made their first-ever appearance in the SSC Tournament final, and hosted the NCAA Division II South Regional for the first time in program
