Softball Sweeps Friday Doubleheader at Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla. – Embry-Riddle made the trip to Lakeland, Florida on Friday, taking on Florida Southern in a doubleheader to open the final regular season series of Sunshine State Conference play.

The Eagles swept the day, winning 8-5 in game one before holding on for a 4-3 victory in game two to move to 24-25 on the season.

  • The Eagles are riding a six-game winning streak over the Moccasins, holding a 21-5 overall record.
Game 1 | Embry-Riddle – 8, Florida Southern – 5

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Embry-Riddle struck first thanks to an Emma Wood RBI single in the opening inning.
  • Florida Southern answered with five hits in the bottom half of the inning to help plate two runs in the process, leaving the bases loaded to close.
  • The Eagles reclaimed control of the lead with a two-hit second frame which included an RBI triple from Addison Orr, a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt from Riley Sullivan and an RBI single from Leah Oberkehr.
  • FSC leveled things in the third with three hits and an error assisting the pair of runs scored.
  • ERAU took the lead once again as Sierra Lipton and Wood both notched RBI singles to boost the guest to a 7-4 advantage in the fourth.
  • An RBI ground out produced the fifth and final run for the Mocs before a double from Wood in the seventh helped continue things as she eventually scored the eighth run of the game.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • ERAU finished batting .333 (10-for-30) overall and were 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position and 12-for-18 in advancement opportunities.
  • Oberkehr and Wood both paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate while Wood and Lipton led with a pair of RBI each.
  •  Wood's double lifted herself to the top of the program record books, marking herself as the solo leader in individual career doubles with 42.
  • Oberkehr stole a pair of bases as well, moving her season total to 43.
  • The Eagles posted three extra-base hits while also notching two sacrifice hits.
  • Olivia Dougherty went the distance, pitching a complete game allowing 10 hits and four earned runs on five strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mattea Martin started off with a lead-off single in the second before Shelby Morse doubled to push home the first of three runs scored for the Eagles.
  • A sacrifice fly from Gianna Domenici plated the second ERAU run of the second inning followed by another from Sullivan for the 3-0 edge.
  • ERAU was held scoreless for three additional innings before scoring one in the sixth.
  • FSC plated a run with a two-out RBI single to cut the deficit, adding another run in the sixth and seventh innings.
  • Morse doubled yet again in the sixth frame for a 4-1 edge.
  • Florida Southern finished the game with an RBI single in the sixth and an RBI double for a 4-3 finish.
INSIDE THE STATS
  • Both teams produced eight hits apiece with the Eagles giving away two errors as well.
  • Morse led the charge with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, driving in a pair with two doubles.
  • Orr produced two hits as well, followed by four other individuals with a single hit each.
  • Ava Domenici pitched for six innings, earning herself a win by allowing six hits on one strikeout for two earned runs.
  • Morse closed the game and picked up the save with a two hit, one-run, one-strikeout performance.
