Lisa Nuxol-Wilson
Head Coach

The Embry-Riddle women’s basketball played its inaugural season of competition in 2014-15. Lisa Nuxol-Wilson, the program’s first head coach, led the Eagles to a 17-12 overall record and a 9-9 league mark, which was good for fourth place in The Sun Conference standings. Under Nuxol-Wilson’s guidance, three individuals earned All-Conference recognition with one first team selection and two being named to the second team. Additionally, she coached the league’s Freshman of the Year and All-Defensive team selection, Sabrina Whiting.
    Prior to being named the Eagles’ head coach in August 2013, Nuxol-Wilson has served as an Assistant Coach at the University of Alabama, Stetson and Georgia Southern and was the head coach at Seminole State College for three seasons. In 2008, she became the head coach, program director and national evaluator at Blue Star (Florida) Basketball. With Blue Star, Nuxol-Wilson was tasked with overseeing high school and elite-level women’s basketball, recruiting players, administering program budgets, scheduling tournaments, and managing all public relations.

Shannon Murphy enjoyed a successful four-year career at NCAA I Florida Gulf Coast University from 2007-11. A three-year team captain, she graduated with 1,185 points and became only the third FGCU women’s basketball player to join the program’s 1,000-point club.

After completing her undergraduate in Marketing with a Minor in Advertising in May 2011, Murphy was named the Vice President of Three Points Hoops, Inc. Her responsibilities with Three Point Hoops included directing Nike Summer Basketball camps around the state of Florida, running USSSA Basketball Tournaments for boys and girls, and private training and player development for boys and girls ranging from age seven to the collegiate level.

Messina began her collegiate career at the University of South Florida where she earned 10 starts in 29 appearances. The following year, she transferred to the University of Tampa and made an immediate impact on the Spartan program. A three-year team captain she graduated with 1,326 points and became the only Tampa women's basketball player to join the program's 1,000-point club in only three years. With Messina in the lineup, the Spartans posted a 73-19 record, won two SSC regular season conference titles, won one SSC conference tournament and made three consecutive DII NCAA tournament appearances. Messina ranked fourth in the nation for 3-point field goal percentage during her senior season at 45%.
