After guiding Embry-Riddle’s club rowing program for the last three years, Robert Van Twyver will be the first head men’s coach for Embry-Riddle’s inaugural intercollegiate rowing season in spring 2018.
Prior to his time at Embry-Riddle, Van Twyver was the head coach at the Don Rowing Club of Mississauga, where he won the Henley Gold in the U19 men’s eight and six additional Henley Golds in 2013.
Van Twyver spent time between 2010-2013 as an instructor of rowing at the Florida Rowing Center. During the summer of 2011 he went to Alaska and served as the head coach for the Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club. In 2010 Van Twyver was a coach for the Orlando Rowing Club.
In 2008, Van Twyver volunteered as rowing coach at Stetson University. During the 2004-2005 season Van Twyver worked at Stetson as a novice coach where he worked with beginner rowers from Stetson as well as visiting teams.
After graduating from college, Van Twyver returned to his former high school as the Head Women’s Rowing Coach at Edgewater High School (1990-1995). As coach for Edgewater, Van Twyver won multiple state championships and had several athletes selected to the Nations Team Development Camp. He spent his summers as the summer rowing program director at the Orlando Rowing Club.
Van Twyver is a 1988 graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. While attending the University of Florida, Van Twyver was the rowing club president.
