ERU Volleyball Gets a Game From Northwood, But Seahawks Prevail

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The?Embry-Riddle?women's volleyball team put forth a strong third game effort to get back into the match, but?Northwood University bounced back to win the match 3-1 with a fourth-game victory (30-16, 30-18, 19-30, 30-20).

The Eagles (3-27, 2-11 in FSC) weren't ?in the first or second games?battling from large deficits trailing 19-9 in the first game and 19-8 in the second.?

However, just when it looked like Northwood (16-8, 11-3 FSC) was going to close out the match,?ERU got back on track in the?third behind the play of?senior Noela Tola (seven kills) and freshman Dani Brazolino (four kills) who combined for 11 kills and a .455 hitting percentage.? In fact, the .378 team hitting percentage in that game was the second-best effort for the Eagles all season.

Embry-Riddle trailed only once on the opening serve, but after taking the lead 2-1, the Eagles never lost the lead.? Leading 23-19, freshman Ashell Curtiss?served the next seven points with one service ace to close out the game 30-19.?

Unfortunately,?the Eagles hot hands went away hitting a negative .049 hitting percentage and Northwood?capitalized on ERU's mistakes taking a 20-8 lead midway through the game and cruising to the 30-20 victory.

Tola finished with 12 kills to lead the Eagles, while?Brazolino finished with nine and added 18 digs.? Nancy Salb was extremely strong defensively for the Eagles with 22 digs, while?posting six kills, three assists and two service aces.? Sue Delahanty?(New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) finished with eight kills and?is now?40 kills away from?tying the Embry-Riddle record for?kills in a career with three matches remaining.

Vivian Perez paced Northwood with 12 kills, while Capri Hilgendorf added 10.
