DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Embry-Riddle seniors Nancy Salb (Boise, Idaho) and Marcia Bullara-Smith (Oak Hill, Fla./Spruce Creek HS) went out in style in their last home match at the ICI Center defeating Northwood University (Fla.) 3-0 (30-19, 30-14, 30-25) Thursday night in Florida Sun Conference action.
The victory clinched third-place for the Eagles (23-10, 9-4 FSC) in the Florida Sun Conference even if they drop their final conference game against Northwood (7-16, 2-10) next week because they hold the tiebreaker over fourth-place Webber International by splitting their season series with Flagler.
Salb finished with 12 digs and two service aces, while Bullara-Smith recorded one dig.
Janelle Marinos led the Eagles with 19 kills and 18 digs, while Daniela Brazolino added 14 kills and 14 digs.
Embry-Riddle built an early 17-9 lead in game one and never looked back?behind five?kills apiece from Brazolino and Marinos to prevail 30-19.? The second was a carbon-copy pushing out to a 16-9 advantage, but Northwood cut the lead to 19-13.? However, Embry-Riddle scored 11 of the final 12 points to?win convincingly 30-14.? Marinos sparked the final run?recording?all four of her match service aces.
Northwood put?forth its best effort of the evening in the final game?going up 8-7 early?and maintained the advantage?until the midway point of the game when ERAU retook?the lead 18-17.? The?Eagles never relinquished the lead.??The Seahawks closed the gap to 27-25, but a Brazolino gave?the Blue and Gold?a sideout and then Marinos put it away with her final two kills of the night.???
Claudia Andrade and Capri Hilgendorf led Nortwood with eight kills apiece. Hilgendorf and Crystal White recorded 15 digs apiece.
