SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Junior Janelle Marinos (Three Rivers, Calif.) recorded 31 kills?hitting .407 and added seven digs and three service aces to lead the Embry-Riddle University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 victory (30-25, 30-27, 30-22) against Warner Southern (Fla.)?at the SCAD Spikefest Tournament Friday evening.
It was Marinos' sixth 20-plus kill effort of the season and second 30-plus performance after breaking the ERAU record for single-match kills with 32 against Webber International on Sept. 9.
Marinos single-handidly led the Eagles (16-5) to victory in the first game with 14 of her kills coming in the game with a .619 hitting percentage.?
Ashell Curtiss (Libby, Mont.)?contributed to?ERAU's 30-27 win in game two with four of her six kills in the match on a .667 hitting percentage.? Marinos added another eight kills and?Nancy Salb (Boise, Idaho) and Jenni Nelsen (Titusville, Fla.) recorded three kills apiece.
Marinos finished the third game with nine kills hitting .412 and Mia Jaramillo (Manizales, Colombia) added?six kills?on a .364 hitting percentage.? The Eagles hit .256 as a team in the final game led by setter Marissa Gonzales (Littleton, Colo.) who?recorded 15 assists and finished the match with 48.
The Eagles held Warner Southern to .113 hitting in the match and .083 in the final game led by Brazolino?with 10 digs.? Marcia?Bullara-Smith (Oak Hill, Fla.) and Gonzales added nine and eight digs, respectively.
The Eagles close out the tournament Saturday?against Webber International (Fla.)?at 11:15 a.m. and face Northwood (Fla.) at 1:30 p.m.
