"April had her best match yet and she was motivated because she has played with and against a lot of players and she really took it to them tonight," ERAU head coach
Joslynn Gallop said.
The victory helped the Eagles maintain second-place in the league with a 7-1 mark and improve to 12-12 overall, while WIU drops to third in the conference at 5-2 and fall to 10-4 overall.
"I'm happy with our performance tonight because we really passed well and that helped us execute our offense to the highest level we've had all season," Gallop added. "We showed a lot of pride after a disappointing start in game one to defend our home court."
The Warriors played a tough 3-2 match falling at Flagler in St. Augustine eariler in the afternoon and then travelled down to Daytona Beach for tonight contest. The first game the Warriors needed little warmup and came out strong battling ERAU point-for-point with a 12-12 tie midway through the game. However, WIU went on an 11-2 run to build a 23-14 advantage and cruised to the 30-19 victory in game one.
The two teams battled closely once again in the second game with 14 ties and seven lead changes. Neither team gained the upperhand until Embry-Riddle pushed the lead to 25-20, but Webber closed the gap to 26-25 on a kill by Leah Merrique and later tied the game at 27-27. However, Ebanks took matters into her own hands with a kill to put ERAU ahead 28-27, then she blocked Cindy Eurie's attack attempt and
Savannah Trakes closed out the game with a kill 30-27.
The third and fourth games were all Embry-Riddle as the taxing day with two matches and travel started getting the better of the Warriors and ERAU's passing and attack kept getting stronger. The Blue and Gold built a 17-7 advantage in game three and coasted to a 30-16 victory, while game four was almost identical as the Eagles jumped ahead 17-9 and prevailed 30-15.
