Eagle Volleyball Ends Season With Loss to Webber International in Semifinals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle University volleyball season came to an end with a 3-1 loss (25-30, 30-26, 25-30, 27-30) to third-seeded Webber International in the semifinals of the FSC/Region XIV tournament on Friday evening.

ERAU, which entered as the second seed in the tournament, defeated Florida Memorial 3-0 (30-9, 30-21, 30-15) earlier in the day to advance to the semis.  Jenn Meglic was the top Eagle hitter on the day registering 13 kills against Florida Memorial with a .571 hitting percentage, while adding 11 in the loss to Webber hitting .409.  She closed out the year with a .302 hitting percentage in 121 games with 347 kills (2.87 per game) and 116 errors in 766 total attempts.

In the loss to Webber International, the Eagles (18-16) split the first game and fell behind 2-1 before battling down to the wire in the fourth.  WIU led 28-27 after a service ace by Cindy Eurie which ERAU head coach Joslynn Gallop and many of her players thought had travelled outside the antenna, but was ruled inside and fell between two Eagles for the ace.  Gallop incensed by the call was given a yellow for arguing the call and then a red for further pushing the issue which awarded the Warriors (20-7) a point giving them a 29-27 lead and the serve.

Kristyn Kufferman ended the match with a kill off a Danelle Wagner set.  Eurie who provided the critical ace, also registered a match-high 20 kills, while Chantelle Jordan added 13 kills and 22 digs.  Wagner finished with 49 assists.

Mia Jaramillo, the lone senior on the Eagle squad went out with likely her best performance of her career with 10 kills and just one error in 26 swings and finished with a .346 hitting percentage.

Rachel Ridder and Jenni Nelsen led the way with 27 and 26 digs respectively, while Marissa Gonzales had 43 assists.  Savannah Trakes and Nelsen each added 11 kills for the Eagles.

Webber International will face SCAD in the finals on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a trip to the NAIA national championship on the line. The national event will be played on Nov. 29-Dec. 2 in Columbia, Mo.
