DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle University volleyball team extended its match winning streak to four with a 3-0 victory (30-6, 30-19, 30-10) against Florida Memorial University in a Florida Sun Conference match Friday evening in the ICI Center.
Embry-Riddle recorded an amazing 28 team service aces including 12 from April Ebanks and 10 for Marissa Gonzales to help ERAU improve to 5-6 overall and 2-0 in the FSC.
"We came out really strong in the first game, but we got a little too relaxed in the second and that was disappointing," ERAU head coach Joslynn Gallop said. "After the break we played at the level we are capable of and set the tone for tomorrow's match against St. Thomas."
Embry-Riddle hit just .128 as a team in the second leading to a much closer game and the Lions recorded their best effort of the evening with a .231 hitting percentage.
Jenni Nelsen paced the Eagles with a .294 hitting percentage and a match-high nine kills. Freshman Kristen Hassett saw a lot of action in a split-setting role with Gonzales and finished with 11 assists, while Gonzales closed out the match with 16 assists. Continuing to shine on the offensive end was Jenn Meglic who hit a match-high .571 with eight kills on 14 attempts without an error.
Seabreeze's Rachel Ridder led the way with 10 digs, while FMU's Kiesha Alexander also posted 10 digs.
The Eagles close out the FSC weekend with a match at 12 p.m. against St. Thomas University (Miami, Fla.) in the ICI Center.
