Eagles Open Season With Best Record in Program History, Win Pacific Coast Classic

EL CAJON, Calif. - With a 9-0 record, the 2008 Embry-Riddle Eagles volleyball team opened the season with the best record in program history, topping the 1996 team's 8-0 start. The team's ninth win came in the championship match of the Pacific Coast Classic against tournament host San Diego Christian, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-17).

The Eagles took an early lead in match one and held on to their lead through the entire match to take the championship trophy home with an undefeated record and had a season high 9 blocks in a match.

Senior Marissa Gonzales and freshman Abby Hall were both named to the All-Tournament team as the Eagles dominated the host, replaying both team's final pool play match, which occurred earlier in the day. The Eagles seem to march to a new beat, as their attacks were spot on matching their season high in kills in a three-set match, with 40 kills in 90 attempts, hitting .367 in the match.

Hall had two solo blocks with three block assists along with nine kills in the game and tallied four service aces. Both Savannah Trakes and Corey Dobridnia chalked up 8 kills. Dobridnia and Alana Martinez also had three blocks each.

After returning to Florida, the Blue and Gold will travel to Babson Park to face off against league rivals, Webber International on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. The Eagles will continue conference play on Saturday against Warner Southern at 2 p.m.
