JACKSONVILLE, Fla. ?The third-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team improved its record to 2-0 with a 4-1 win over NCAA Division I Jacksonville on Thursday.
The Eagles won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to win the doubles point as Adrian Bayh and Charlie Rice downed Murilo Souza and Victor Vas 9-8 (4) and Peter Francis and Istvan Bolgar topped Vinivius Craveiro and Marcos Oliveira 8-4.
Bayh was the first to finish his singles match defeating Vas 7-5, 6-4 at the third singles position. The Dolphins got a point back when Francisco Riveroll got by Jan Hoekzema 7-5, 7-5.
The match at No. 1 singles was a hard-fought, three-set contest that lasted three hours and 15 minutes. In the end, it was Bes Comeras who, despite being slowed by cramps in the latter stages of the match, pulled out the 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win.
The clincher came at the No. 6 spot where Bolgar finished on the winning side of another three-setter, besting Matthew Rock 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The matches at No. 4 and No. 5 were stopped due to darkness.
The Eagles take a two-game road trip to Savannah, Ga. next week, taking on Armstrong Atlantic at 3 p.m. on Feb. 20 and Savannah College of Art and Design at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21.
