Women's Soccer Opens Season with 5-0 Win 8/20/2011 10:12:00 PM Share: Coach Bohon's Postgame Comments DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 16th-ranked women's soccer team from Embry-Riddle's Daytona Beach campus opened its 2011 season on a positive note, topping the team from ERAU's Prescott, Ariz. campus 5-0 on Saturday. Saturday's contest marked the only second meeting ever between the campuses, with the first taking place in 2004. The Daytona Beach Eagles enjoyed much of the run of play throughout the match, outshooting their Prescott counterparts 26-3 over 90 minutes, but the home team struggled to find the back of the net in the early stages of the match, due, in part to a solid goalkeeping effort by Ciarra Pedersen. After missing a few wide open chances, ERAU Florida was finally able to break through with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Senior Cecilie Henriksen raced through the heart of the ERAU Arizona defense and her shot beat Pederson low for a 1-0 ERAU Florida lead. Once they scored the first, the next goal was not far behind for the Daytona Beach Eagles as the second goal of the evening came less than four minutes after the first. Lauren McCall, who came off the bench late in the first half, managed to earn a corner kick, which was taken by Henriksen. Henriksen's left-footed cross made its way to Martine Olsen inside the box. Olsen's header found Bjorg Olafs on the near post and Olafs headed home her first goal of the year to give the Daytona Beach campus a 2-0 lead heading into half time. In the 57th minute, sophomore defender Tova Torstensson, brought the ball up the field from the back and found Olsen whose diagonal run allowed her to run in on goal unmarked. Olsen took full advantage and tucked a low shot past Pedersen for a 3-0 ERAU Florida lead. After winning the ball in the back, defender Allison Schultz slotted a pass through to Henrikssen just 10 yards inside the Prescott half of the field. Henriksen took the ball into the box and got a cross of to Olsen, who had made a run on opposite side, and Olsen tapped in her second goal of the evening to make it a 4-0 game. Henriksen was solely responsible for the fifth and final goal of the night. After eluding a defender, she lofted a shot from about 30 yards out that dipped under the bar just out of Pedersen's reach to seal the win. All 20 players on the ERAU Florida roster saw action in the first game of the season, including Lauren Gallant and Dina Roper who split time in the Eagle nets to claim a share of the shutout. Pedersen finished the evening with eights saves for ERAU Arizona, who move to 0-1 with the loss. ERAU Florida will be back in action on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. when they host NCAA I Stetson at the ERAU Soccer Stadium.Print Friendly Version Related Videos Now Playing: Play Video Related Stories 11.10.25 RV Women’s Soccer Falls 2-0 to Mocs in SSC Quarterfinals 11.05.25 RV Women’s Soccer Finishes Regular Season With 2-0 Loss to Sharks 11.01.25 No. 22 Women’s Soccer Remains Unbeaten Through 15 Games with 1-1 Draw 10.29.25 No. 22 Women’s Soccer and Florida Southern End Level at 1-1
